This study was carried out to determine whether slow nail growth is a predisposing factor for onychomycosis or if onychomycosis results in slow nail growth. Forty-nine patients with unilateral onychomycosis of the great toenail were enrolled and classified in two groups according to the size of affected area, i.e. more than half or less than half of the toenail. A case of hyperkeratosis follicularis et parafollicularis in cutem penetrans Kyrle's disease in a 41-year-old woman is described. It was a recurrence of a lesion surgically removed and originally diagnosed as invasive squamous cell carcinoma. Kyrle's disease is a rare dermatosis and should not be confused with neoplastic conditions i.e. squamous cell carcinoma. Pathologists should be aware of such conditions in order to avoid misdiagnosis, which can imply over treatment for the patient.

OBJECTIVE: To compare the antifungal activity of itraconazole and terbinafine in vitro and to relate them to their experimental in vivo activity and to their efficacy in patients with superficial fungal infections (tinea pedis and onychomycosis).

Sixteen cases of epidermal cyst (EC) (6 cases of conventional EC and 10 cases of plantar epidermoid cyst (PEC)) and 9 cases of trichilemmal cyst (TC) were examined by an immunohistochemical technique using various antibodies against cytokeratins and human papilloma virus (HPV) in order to clarify their histogenesis. Pitted keratolysis (PK) has been reported to be more common among bare-footed people living in tropical regions. It is now known that the disease is not limited to the tropics but has a world-wide distribution. However, no study has previously been performed analysing the clinical manifestations of the disease in temperate countries. A survey of 53 patients revealed several distinctive clinical features. Two clinical trials were performed to determine the relative efficacy of tioconazole, a new antifungal agent for treating patients with tinea pedis. One study compared the new agent with a placebo cream and the other with miconazole nitrate, an established effective antifungal agent. Prior to military service, 665 recruits were examined clinically and microbiologically for tinea pedis and erythrasma and 546 of these were reexamined at the end of military service. The prevalence of clinical signs, erythrasma, and dermatophyte infection at the first investigation was 58.8%, 51.3%, and 6.2%, respectively, and at the second investigation, 81.1%, 77.1%, and 7.0%, respectively. BACKGROUND: Acute pseudoperniosis (PP) has a recognized association with COVID-19 and tends to occur without cold precipitation in young, healthy patients, often without a clear history of COVID-19. These lesions usually resolve within 2 weeks and without long-term sequelae. In the early months of 2021, patients with delayed and protracted PP began to emerge.
