Navicular fractures, although rare, can cause significant midfoot pain and dysfunction. This case report discusses the presentation, diagnosis, and surgical management of an acute navicular fracture with dorsal talo-navicular dislocation in a 30-year-old male. The patient, with no significant medical history, sustained the injury after falling from a height of approximately 3 meters. Initial clinical examination revealed midfoot swelling, ecchymosis, and tenderness, with imaging confirming the fracture and dislocation. The patient underwent open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) of the fr

Bilateral asymmetrical hip dislocations are rare, occurring in only 0.01-0.02% of all joint dislocations, typically following high-energy trauma. We present a 22-year-old male involved in a high-speed motor vehicle collision, sustaining a right posterior hip dislocation with an associated posterior wall acetabular fracture and a left obturator-type anterior dislocation. He underwent successful closed reduction within two hours post-injury, but due to persistent instability of the posterior acetabular wall fracture, open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) via a Kocher-Langenbeck approach wa

Background: Bennett fractures are traditionally fixed with percutaneous K-wires from dorsal to volar, or with a volar to dorsal screw via a volar open approach. While volar to dorsal screw fixation is biomechanically advantageous, an open approach requires extensive soft tissue dissection, thus increasing morbidity. This study aims to investigate the practicality and safety of Bennett fracture fixation using a percutaneous, volar to dorsal screw, particularly with regard to the median nerve and its motor branch during wire and screw insertion. Methods: Fifteen fresh frozen forearm and hand spe

CASE: A 34-year-old man was a restrained passenger involved in a high-speed rollover motor vehicle crash. The patient sustained a type 5 AC joint separation, severely comminuted intra-articular glenoid fracture with extension to the coracoid process base, displaced open scapular body fracture, a posterior shoulder dislocation of the glenohumeral joint, and a 2-part proximal humerus fracture.
CONCLUSION: To our knowledge, this is the first report describing this injury pattern involving the superior shoulder suspensory complex with an associated open proximal humerus fracture-dislocation.

In this report, we present a case of a triple clavicle injury, acromioclavicular joint (ACJ) dislocation, a middle third clavicle fracture, and a sternoclavicular joint (SCJ) subluxation, and describe its successful surgical treatment. A 49-year-old female patient sustained a 3 m fall, resulting in direct trauma to her left shoulder. Initial radiographs and computed tomography (CT) scans revealed a displaced middle third clavicle fracture, a high-grade ACJ dislocation, and a posterior SCJ subluxation. Surgical intervention was proposed due to the severity of the ACJ dislocation. The patient un

BACKGROUND: Traumatic radial head dislocation (RHD) is a well-described injury in the pediatric population. It is usually associated with an injury to the ulna in Monteggia fracture-dislocation, although it can occur as an isolated injury. Traumatic RHD with ipsilateral radial shaft fracture has rarely been reported. Delayed RHD secondary to the malunion of an isolated radial shaft fracture is extremely rare.
CASE SUMMARY: We report a 9-year-old boy with limited pronation of the right elbow. The patient was diagnosed with delayed RHD associated with the malunion of a distal radial fracture. S

INTRODUCTION: The most common approaches in total hip arthroplasty (THA) have different complication profiles; anterior-approach (AA-THA) has an increased risk of periprosthetic fractures (PPF); posterior-approach (PA-THA) is associated with higher dislocation risk. However, the relative severity of one versus the other is unknown. This study aims to compare outcome of patients who suffered PPF after AA-THA with those that sustained dislocation after PA-THA.
METHODS: This is a retrospective, single-center, multi-surgeon, consecutive case-series of primary THA patients. In a cohort of 9867 pat

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to investigate the risk factors associated with dislocation and dissociation following bipolar hemiarthroplasty (HA) for the treatment of patients with femoral neck fractures.
METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed 462 patients (479 hips) treated with bipolar HA from January 2010 to January 2020. All patients received posterolateral approaches and a minimum follow-up of at least 2 years regularly. A case-control study was performed to analyze the risk factors of dislocation regarding patient demographics, coexisting diseases, surgical and morphologic features. Multiv

This is a rare case report of medial femoral condyle fracture with irreducible incarcerated patella dislocation. Following the literature search, only a few cases have been reported in the literature. In this case, the patient had undergone open reduction and screw fixation of the femoral condyle, augmented with a distal femoral locking plate (LCP). Postoperatively patient was immobilised with an above knee backslab for a month. After removing the backslab, physiotherapy was commenced to improve the range of motion and strengthening the quadriceps muscle. After 18 months of follow-up, the pati

Traumatic anterior hip dislocation is quite rare and accounts for 7% to 15% of all hip dislocations. Approximately 70% of anterior hip dislocations are the obturator type and represent less than 7% of all hip dislocations. Indentation fracture of the femoral head complicates 35-55% of obturator dislocations. Features of osteonecrosis of the femoral head and osteoarthritis of the hip joint may manifest within 2 years. Our index patient is a 19-year-old female who had conservative treatment for right obturator dislocation with indentation fracture of the femoral head. She recovered fully and had

INTRODUCTION: Traumatic dislocation of hip associated with ipsilateral femur neck and acetabulum fracture is a rare and devastating injury as a result of high-energy trauma, with potential complications of femur head aseptic necrosis and hip joint degenerative arthritis. Patients, postoperatively, may encounter decreased functional outcomes and serious challenge, during activities of daily living. Management guidelines lack clarity, with possible options including fracture fragments fixation or hip joint replacement.

CASE: A healthy 15-year-old girl presented with osteochondral fracture at the posterior aspect of the lateral femoral condyle (LFC) associated with a right patellar dislocation after a noncontact injury. The patient remained asymptomatic 18 months after the arthroscopically assisted reduction and internal fixation of the osteochondral fracture using bioabsorbable pins and was able to eventually resume her usual activities of daily living.
CONCLUSIONS: This is the first report of an osteochondral fracture at the posterior aspect of the LFC after an acute patellar dislocation, successfully trea

Fracture dislocation injuries of the toes are rare among pediatric population. These injuries when acute are mostly treated conservatively and a good reduction must be ensured. We present the case of a 2-year-old girl who presented with missed chronic fracture dislocation of the proximal interphalangeal joint of the fifth toe, which was managed by open reduction and internal fixation and had a good outcome at over 1 year of follow up. We believe that this is the first case of this injury to be published in the peer-reviewed literature.

BACKGROUND: Whether an anterior shoulder fracture dislocation should be reduced under sedation in the emergency department is still a dilemma. This retrospective study aimed to determine when it is safe to perform a closed reduction based on the fracture pattern.
METHODS: Surgically treated anterior shoulder fracture dislocations over eight years were classified into three groups. Group 1 involved an isolated greater tuberosity fracture. Group 2 and 3 involved surgical and or anatomical neck fractures. In group 2, the head and the shaft fragments were displaced together anteriorly and inferio…

PURPOSE: Traumatic hip dislocation can be isolated or associated with acetabular fracture. Both injuries require emergency reduction of the dislocated hip. Avascular necrosis of the femoral head (AVN) is a potential complication that accompanies these severe injuries. Our objective is to identify the risk factors that cause AVN.
METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed 44 patients with traumatic hip dislocations (Group A) and patients with posterior fracture-dislocation of the acetabulum (Group B). The average follow-up was 5.38 years in Group A, 5.59 years in Group B. We used the Thompson-Epstei

INTRODUCTION: Osteochondral fracture of the patella is a fairly common pathology, but almost always associated with a spectrum of soft tissue injuries including anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) rupture. We present a rare case of an osteochondral fracture of the patella in the absence of ligament or soft tissue injuries and with no dislocation of the patella in a pediatric patient.
PRESENTATION OF CASE: An 11-year-old male presented to the orthopedic clinic on crutches following a football injury. The patient had pain in his left knee with flexion deformity. Plain film radiography of the left

Background Pisiform dislocations are an extremely rare injury. There are reports in the literature of isolated dislocations, but to our knowledge there are no reports of distal radius fractures with associated pisiform dislocations. Methods and Results We present two cases of isolated pisiform dislocation and distal radius fracture in the adult population. Both patients were managed conservatively with closed reduction in both the distal radius and pisiform, and subsequently achieved good pain relief and progressive return of wrist function. Conclusion For adult patients with distal radius
