Three-dimensional pseudocontinuous arterial spin labeling perfusion imaging shows cerebral blood flow perfusion decline in attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder children.

(5) Three principal components (F1, F2, F3) can be used to generalize all indexes. CONCLUSION: The difference in occipital lobe rTTP on CTA perfusion may be a potential predictor of HIE. Furthermore, abnormal CT and rTTP may be used for predi …

Alteration of gray matter microstructure in schizophrenia.

Neuroimaging studies demonstrate gray matter (GM) macrostructural abnormalities in patients with schizophrenia (SCZ). While ex-vivo and gene … en groups. Patients with early course SCZ exhibited higher diffusion heterogeneity in the GM of the frontal lobes compared to controls. Diffusion heterogeneity of the frontal lobe showed excellent discrimination between patients and HC, while none of the commonly used diffusion measures such as FA or MD did. Higher diffusion heterogeneity in the frontal lobes …

Striatal dopamine metabolism correlated with frontotemporal glucose utilization in Alzheimer's disease: a double-tracer PET study.

We previously found that the rate of [l8F]6-fluoro-L-dopa (FDOPA) uptake into the striatum (the Ki value) in Alzheimer's disease (AD) correlated with cognitive function. Patients with wandering behavior had an increased level of D2 dopamine receptors. Decreased cerebral glucose utilization (CMRglc) in the parietal and temporo-parieto-occipital region is a well-known PET finding in AD. We investigated the relationship between the Ki value and regional CMRglc (rCMRglc) with reference to cognitive impairment and wandering behavior. We studied 10 AD patients with moderately severe dementia. Using

Resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) and functional connectivity density mapping in patients with corneal ulcer.

PURPOSE: To investigate alternations in spontaneous brain activities reflected by functional connectivity density (FCD) in patients with corneal ulcer (CU) using resting-state functional connectivity (rsFC). METHODS: We recruited 24 patients with CU (12 males, 12 females), and 24 healthy controls (HCs; 12 males, 12 females) matched for age, gender and education status. Functional magnetic resonance imaging examinations were performed on all subjects in a resting state and the following parameters determined: rsFC, long-range FCD (longFCD) and short-range FCD (IFCD). Receiver operating charact

Altered spontaneous brain activity patterns in patients with corneal ulcer using amplitude of low-frequency fluctuation: An fMRI study.

The aim of the present study was to investigate the altered spontaneous brain activity in patients with corneal ulcer (CU) through the amplitude of low-frequency fluctuation (ALFF) technique and the association with their visual performance. A total of 40 patients with CU and 40 healthy controls (HCs) matched for sex, age and educational level were enrolled. Resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI) was performed to examine the probands. Spontaneous cerebral activity variations were investigated using the ALFF technique. The average ALFF values of the CU patients and the HC

Human microglial cell isolation from adult autopsy brain: brain pH, regional variation, and infection with human immunodeficiency virus type 1.

The highest microglial cell yields were derived from anterior brain sectors (frontal lobe and temporal lobe) versus occipital lobe and cerebellum. A PMI of up to 25.5 h produced excellent cell yields in frontal lobe samples with high brain pH. HIV-1 infection of frontal lobe microglia was 100% successful using both CXCR4- and CCR5-tropic …

Porencephaly and hydranencephaly in six dogs.

A retrospective study was performed to identify dogs with cerebrospinal fluid-filled cavitatory lesions on MRI. Six dogs were included and the lesions were classified. In the three dogs in the present study with hydranencephaly, unilateral but complete loss of the temporal and parietal lobes was noted and had almost complete loss of the occipital and frontal lobes of a cerebral hemisphere. In the three dogs with porencephaly, there was unilateral incomplete loss of the parietal lobe and one dog had additional partial loss of the temporal and frontal lobes. Two of the dogs with porencephaly had…

Distribution of α2-Adrenergic Receptors in the Living Human Brain Using [11C]yohimbine PET.

The neurofunctional basis of the noradrenergic (NA) system and its associated disorders is still very incomplete because in vivo imaging tools in humans have been missing up to now. Here, for the first time, we use [11C]yohimbine in a large sample of subjects (46 healthy volunteers, 23 females, 23 males; aged 20-50) to perform direct quantification of regional alpha 2 adrenergic receptors' (α2-ARs) availability in the living human brain. The global map shows the highest [11C]yohimbine binding in the hippocampus, the occipital lobe, the cingulate gyrus, and the frontal lobe. Moderate binding wa…

CONCLUSION: Exercise for PD mainly results in the enhanced activation of the cerebellum, occipital lobe, parietal lobe, and frontal lobe. [Creation of Stereo Color Anatomical Charts Showing Nerve Fibers in the Cerebral Lobe and Gyrus of the Brain for Use in the MR Examination].

In anatomical charts in conventional books, the pathways of nerve fibers are drawn in illustrations. Conversely, with diffusion tensor tractography (DTT), we can visually understand the trajectory of nerve fibers through color. We created a stereo color anatomical chart of the nerve fibers that can be used for magnetic resonance (MR) examination to diagnose the pathway of nerve fibers and that can be used to explain the results of MR examination to visually understand how nerve fiber information is transmitted from the frontal lobe, parietal lobe, occipital lobe, temporal lobe, cerebellar lobe…

The structural connectivity of higher order association cortices reflects human functional brain networks.

[A patient with HIV encephalopathy presenting with parkinsonism during HAART therapy].

We report the case of a 32-year-old man presenting symptoms of parkinsonism. Neurological examination revealed parkinsonism symptoms such as akinesia and postural instability, dementia and frontal lobe signs. He was diagnosed as having human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) encephalopathy. Brain MRI, 99mTc ECD-SPECT and 1H-MR spectroscopy demonstrated symmetrical cerebral white matter lesions, predominantly in the bilateral frontal lobes. Frontal lobe dysfunction could be responsible for his parkinsonism associated with HIV encephalopathy. His neurological symptoms improved transiently after the i…

Hemodynamic and metabolic changes in a patient with cerebral venous sinus thrombosis: evaluation using O-15 positron emission tomography.

The cerebral hemodynamics and oxygen metabolism before and after the recanalization of the occluded sinus were evaluated using O-15 positron emission tomography (PET) scanning in a 21-year-old woman with superior sagittal sinus thrombosis. During the initial presentation, there was increased regional cerebral blood volume (rCBV) in the left frontal and parietal lobes with moderately increased rCBV in the right parietal lobe. Recanalization of the occluded sinus resulted in a normalization of elevated rCBV in the frontal and parietal lobes and improvements of rCBF and regional cerebral metaboli
