OBJECTIVE: Laugier-Hunziker-Baran syndrome represents a rare acquired pigmentary disorder which has no relevance to internal disorders and has no familial association. There are few reports on histopathologic studies of this syndrome concerning Japanese individuals. The differential diagnosis of oral and pigmented lesions between Laugier-Hunziker-Baran syndrome and other disorders, Peutz-Jeghers syndrome in particular, requires our utmost consideration.

This study presents the epidemiological and mycological aspects of 299 patients with nail lesions who were referred to three diagnostic laboratories in the city of Cali. The clinicopathological features of 22 cases of the Dowling-Meara form of epidermolysis bullosa simplex (DM-EBS) (11 males, 11 females; aged 5 days-46 years) were reviewed using data collected over a 10-year period. Fifty-five patients with griseofulvin-unresponsive dermatophytosis caused by Trichophyton rubrum were treated with itraconazole. They had either tinea corporis or "dry type" infections of the palms, soles, or nails. A total of 105 patients with established fixed drug eruption (FDE) by oral provocation were evaluated with regard to a drug-related site involvement. Cotrimoxazole was the leading causative agent (63.8%), followed by naproxen sodium (23.8%), dipyrone (5.7%), oxicams (4.8%) and other rare causes (1.9%). We report the case of an 82-year-old woman with a 6-year history of erosive palmoplantar lichen planus associated with eccrine syringofibroadenoma (ESFA). Examination revealed a well-demarcated patche writish of reticulated whitish papular lesions in skin of otherwise normal appearance at the border of erosive lichen planus plaques. These lesions had the histological appearance of ESFA. We suggest that these lesions are induced by the inflammatory remodelling associated with erosive lichen planus and propose to consider ESFA in the context of skin tissue remodelling as a new subtype of ESFA.
