Neonatal mortality in Meerut district.

A study of neonatal mortality in Meerut district revealed an infant mortality rate of 50.1 per 1000 live births. Neonatal mortality accounted for 37.8% of infant mortality with a neonatal mortality rate of 19.0 per 1000 live births. 90.5% of these neonates were delivered at home largely by untrained personnel (57.2%). Only 28.6% of these neonates were treated by qualified doctors and only 30.9% of their mothers were fully immunized against tetanus. At least 2/3rd of neonatal mortality was due to exogenous factors with tetanus neonatorum and septicaemia being the principal causes of mortality e

Parents' use of sunscreen on beach-going children. The burnt child dreads the fire.

BACKGROUND: Little is known about why some parents elect to use sunscreen on their children while others do not. A survey was distributed to beach-going childrens' parents who used (n = 42) or did not use (n = 40) sunscreen on their children to determine differences between these two groups. RESULTS: Parents who applied sunscreen to their children had children who previously had experienced significantly more painful sunburns (chi 2 = 6.40; df = 1; P less than .05). CONCLUSIONS: Sunscreen use by beach-going children is motivated by parental attempts to prevent acute painful sunburn. Parental

Physicians are central to an effective response, yet no validated instrument exists to assess their preparedness. This study aimed to develop and psychometrically assess the first comprehensive survey to identify knowledge gaps and factors influencing the clinical management of arboviruses among Venezuelan physicians. METHODS: A cross-sectional validation study was c

Healthcare providers' beliefs about the health effects of nicotine and electronic cigarettes.

BACKGROUND: Previous research has shown that a significant proportion of healthcare providers hold inaccurate beliefs about the direct health risks of nicotine. However, the extent to which these misconceptions impact beliefs about the health effects of electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes) remains unclear. This study examines the relationship between beliefs about nicotine and e-cigarettes among healthcare providers and trainees. METHODS: A questionnaire was distributed via email and printed flyers to healthcare providers and medical trainees at an academic medical center. Participants rated

Addressing gaps in cancer cachexia care among healthcare professionals at Uganda Cancer Institute.

Cancer cachexia, a multifactorial syndrome of weight loss, muscle wasting, anorexia, and systemic inflammation, often goes unaddressed. Healthcare professionals at Uganda Cancer Institute (UCI) face substantial clinical workloads, limited resources and constrained access to guideline-based practice and limited multi-modal care, all of which adversely affect cancer cachexia recognition and management. To assess UCI professionals' knowledge levels, practice patterns, and attitudinal barriers regarding cancer-cachexia care. A longitudinal quasi-experimental pre-post study design using mixed metho

Perceived Barriers and Facilitators to Providing "Undetectable Equals Untransmittable" Information to HIV/AIDS Patients: A Qualitative Study From the Perspective of Chinese Health Care Providers.

Health care providers (HCPs) report a low willingness to discuss "undetectable equals untransmittable" (U=U) with patients, despite its recognized importance for both public health and the well-being of persons with HIV (PWH). To better understand the barriers and facilitators associated with providing the U=U message, we conducted 16 face-to-face in-depth interviews with HCPs working with PWH in Hunan, China, from October 2021 to May 2022. Data collection was guided by a social-ecological framework. Participants reported reluctance to provide clear U=U information to PWH. The barriers include

An Educational Program to Enhance the Identification of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder and the Utilization of Exposure and Response Prevention Among Outpatient Mental Health Providers.

BACKGROUND: Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a prevalent and impairing psychiatric disorder that is frequently misdiagnosed. Further, despite a breadth of evidence in support of Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) in the treatment of OCD, it is often underutilized or used incorrectly. METHODS: This quality improvement project was conducted utilizing the Plan Do Study Act Cycle at an outpatient group mental health facility with a sample of 19 mental health providers. A pretest post-test design was utilized to assess whether a 1-h educational program would result in an improvement in k

The approach of internal medicine healthcare personnel to palliative care.

BACKGROUND: Healthcare workers in internal medicine wards often encounter challenges while providing palliative care due to a lack of training, emotional support, and organizational resources. Existing studies have explored attitudes toward palliative care in specialized teams, but less is known about internal medicine workers' perspectives. This study aims to address this gap by investigating the attitudes of internal medicine staff, analyzing demographic and professional factors, and assessing specific features, including knowledge of the legal aspects of palliative care. METHODS: A novel,

Physical activity as clinical practice care for patients with type 2 diabetics and its implementation in routine clinical care: an expert opinion survey.

INTRODUCTION: Physical activity (PA) is integral to type 2 diabetes (T2D) treatment, yet few national health services incorporate structured PA services as part of T2D treatment. Moreover, healthcare professionals acknowledge their role in integrating PA into the daily routines, but implementation faces notable barriers. Recognizing the pivotal role of healthcare systems and professionals in promoting physical activity-based interventions is crucial to closing the gap between guidelines and their implementation in real-world settings. METHODS: The study involved 363 healthcare and physical ac
