IRI, IRG and blood glucose levels after I.V.G.T.T. in normal subjects were not significantly modified when I.V.G.T.T. was repeated during a prolonged calcium infusion (15 mg/Kg body weight per 90'). The Authors advance the hypothesis that no closed relationships exist between serum calcium levels and insulin secretion, in these experimental conditions; with regard to glucagon secretion, further experiences are of course required namely during alpha-cell stimulation.

Effects of synthetic neurotensin on the endocrine pancreas were studied in nine normal and six hypophysectomized (10th to 14th day post-hypophysectomy) dogs. Eight patients with hypocalcaemia who presented with frank or latent tetany due to parathyroid insufficiency or nutritional osteomalacia were studied. Their serum calcium ranged from 6·85 to 7·7 mg/100 ml (mean 7·33±0·36 mg/100 ml). In six of them, serum calcium after treatment varied from 8·4 to 9·2 mg/100 ml. In the present study we analyzed the expression of prolactin receptors (PRLR) in human digestive tissues by immunohistochemistry. PRLR immun … ancreas showed a more intense immunoreactivity than the pancreatic acini. By serial sections of the islets of Langerhans we showed that immunostaining was confined to B cells. These findings demonstrate the widespread distribution of PRLR in human digestive tissues and its localization both in cytoplasms and nuclei.

The aim of the study was to assess the rate of insulin independence in patients after total pancreatectomy (TP) and islet autotransplantation in our center. TP followed by islet autotransplantation was performed in 10 patients. Severe unrelenting pain associated with chronic pancreatitis was the major indication for surgery.
