PURPOSE OF REVIEW: To describe recent developments in the pharmacological treatment of vertigo and nystagmus while focusing on vestibular neuritis, Meniere's disease, downbeat nystagmus, periodic alternating nystagmus, acquired pendular nystagmus, and superior oblique myokymia.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate whether electrocochleography (ECochG) and glycerol and furosemide tests could predict progression from atypical to definite Ménière's disease (MD).
MATERIAL AND METHODS: ECochG and glycerol and furosemide tests were performed in 1569 patients with various cochleovestibular diseases, including definite MD, atypical MD, syphilitic labyrinthitis, delayed endolymphatic hydrops, sudden hearing loss, cochleovestibulopathy and sensorineural hearing loss. Patients with atypical MD were divided into five categories based on their symptoms.

INTRODUCTION: Over the last two decades the intratympanic perfusion of corticosteroids has been used as a minimally invasive surgical therapy of Meniere's disease. According to experimental studies the antiinflammatory, immunoprotective, antioxidant and neuroprotective role of the locally perfused corticosteroids was noticed in the inner ear structures. In the evaluation of patients with complaints of dizziness, hearing loss, and/or tinnitus, the primary objective is to determine the site of the lesion. An accurate localization of the lesion is important for selecting the most appropriate radiologic study. BACKGROUND: Meniere's disease remains a controversial condition not only in terms of its etiology and diagnosis but also its treatment.
