Supportive Care Needs From Mid-to Long-Term Follow-Up Among Head and Neck Cancer Survivors: A Longitudinal Cohort Study.

BACKGROUND: There is limited knowledge on the supportive care needs (SCNs) of head and neck cancer (HNC) survivors during long-term survivorship. "A sincere 'how are you?' is already a sign of acknowledgement that you're there too." - Interview study on the support needs of adolescents and young adults (AYAs) living with a parent with cancer.

PURPOSE: Parental cancer brings changes and challenges which affect the whole family. Evidence shows heightened psychosocial risk among the offspring. Research among adolescents and young adults (AYAs) facing parental cancer has mainly focused on these psychosocial problems. As a reaction, there has been an increase in research on the needs of this population, since this knowledge is crucial for developing appropriate support. Despite this increase, some AYAs are still underrepresented, namely those over eighteen years old and those who have a parent with incurable cancer. Moreover, the factor

Unmet Needs in Darier's Disease from a Patient's Perspective: Lessons Learnt from the German Registry.

The MDHHgermany registry was initiated to characterize the "real-life" situation of affected individuals with Darier's disease (DD; Morbus Darier, MD) and Hailey-Hailey disease (HH), including their treatment and healthcare. To gain deeper insights into medical care of patients with DD, various aspects such as demographics, subjective symptoms, patient satisfaction with medical care, past and current therapies were explored. Patients with diagnosed DD were included. Subjective symptoms such as itch, pain and burning sensation were assessed. Individual therapy goals were recorded and patients a

New organisation for follow-up and assessment of treatment efficacy in sleep apnoea.

Obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) is a highly prevalent disease, and there is an increased demand for OSA diagnosis and treatment. However, resources are limited compared with the growing needs for OSA diagnosis and management, and alternative strategies need to be developed to optimise the OSA clinical pathway. In this review, we propose a management strategy for OSA, and in general for sleep-disordered breathing, to be implemented from diagnosis to follow-up. For this purpose, the best current options seem to be: 1) networking at different levels of care, from primary physicians to specialised

Young-onset Alzheimer dementia: a comparison of Brazilian and Norwegian carers' experiences and needs for assistance.

OBJECTIVES: Although dementia typically occurs in older people, it can also emerge in people aged younger than 65 years in the form of young-onset dementia, the most common type of which is Alzheimer's disease (AD). However, few studies have examined the needs of persons with young-onset AD (YO-AD) and their families, and cross-cultural research on the topic is even scarcer. In response, we investigated the situations, experiences and needs for assistance of carers of persons with YO-AD in Brazil and Norway. METHODS: As part of our qualitative study, we formed a convenience sample of Brazilia

Ventilator-dependent children and the health services system. Unmet needs and coordination of care.

RATIONALE: Children dependent on mechanical ventilation are a vulnerable population by virtue of their chronic disability and are therefore at increased risk for health disparities and access barriers. The present study is the first, to our knowledge, to conduct a large-scale survey of caregivers of ventilator-dependent children to develop a comprehensive socio-demographic profile. OBJECTIVES: To describe the demographic and health status profile of ventilator-dependent children, to identify the types of unmet needs families caring for a child on a ventilator face, and to determine the correl

Unmet needs in cancer rehabilitation during the early cancer trajectory--a nationwide patient survey.

BACKGROUND: A cancer diagnosis may lead to psychosocial problems and physical symptoms that can be relieved during rehabilitation. The aim of this study was to analyse patient-perceived unmet needs of rehabilitation close to time of diagnosis, i.e. frequencies of unmet needs and the association with sociodemographic characteristics, cancer type and treatment. MATERIAL AND METHODS: All adult residents of Denmark diagnosed with cancer for the first time from 1 May to 31 August 2010 were mailed a patient questionnaire two to five months following diagnosis. The study population was identified by

A comprehensive assessment of family caregivers of stroke survivors during inpatient rehabilitation.

PURPOSE: Stroke caregivers have been identified as a group at high risk for poor outcomes as a result of the suddenness of stroke and a potentially high level of care needed due to significant functional limitations of the patient. However, there is little research on the assessment of family members who will assume the caregiving role prior to patient discharge from rehabilitation. The purpose of this article is to delineate critical assessment domains identified by a subset of spousal stroke caregivers. METHODS: Semi-structured interviews were conducted pre- and post-discharge from rehabili

Feasibility and potential value of a local governmental frail check-up program for the risk assessment of long-term care in apparently healthy older citizens: a prospective study.

BACKGROUND: Earlier identification of individuals at risk of needing long-term care can increase the opportunities for preventive/therapeutic interventions, leading to a reduced social burden. METHODS: We examined the feasibility and potential value of a frailty check-up program implemented by the local government for risk assessment of long-term care needs in 1,528 apparently healthy older (aged 64/65 years) citizens in Kobe, Japan, between August 2017 and March 2018. Foster family assessment: The assessor's perspective - A qualitative study.

Children in foster care are more likely to exhibit emotional, behavioral, social, and developmental problems. Accordingly, foster families should provide them with a safe family environment that promotes their development. Therefore, to ensure that foster families adequately meet children's needs, it is crucial for youth protection services to properly assess prospective foster family applicants. However, the specific assessment methods are understudied. This study aims to capture the experiences of caseworkers and the challenges they face in assessing and selecting potential foster caregivers

Understanding Changes in Child Welfare Service Needs in the United States: A Quarter-Century Perspective.

This study examined how caregivers and child welfare professionals reported service needs over 25 years, focusing on housing, legal, mental health, and substance use supports. Using three cohorts of the National Survey of Child and Adolescent Well-Being (1999-2024; N = 6,102), we estimated longitudinal multilevel logistic regression models to assess trends in reported service needs and associations with child, caregiver, and child welfare professional characteristics. Reported housing and legal needs declined modestly, while reported mental health and substance use needs increased. Caregivers
