This report describes the initiation, cloning and establishment of long-term serial cultures of rat heart-derived vascular endothelial (EC) and smooth muscle cells (SMC). Populations of these cells derived from both the macro-and microcirculation were obtained utilizing isolated heart perfusion technique.
