The outcomes of 16 patients operated on for renovascular hypertension (RH) are analyzed. Eight had undergone surgery by the thoracoretroperitoneal approach with saphenous vein bypass grafting, and 8 by the transabdominal approach with a Dacron prosthesis. Distinct differences in favour of the former group were found after an average of 6 years of follow-up.

In a prospective clinical study 56 acute tears of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) were treated between 1986 and 1991 by reinsertion and protection of the suture by means of a PET ligament (Trevira hochfest). The patients concerned were 31 men and 23 women (1 man and 1 woman had both knees operated on), with an average age of 39.7 years; 28 left and 28 right knees were affected. As of the end of September 1989, 52 EXS Dacron grafts had been implanted for femoropopliteal bypass operations. The distal ends of 27 grafts were anastomosed to above-knee popliteal arteries and those of 25 grafts to below-knee popliteal arteries. The 12 mm Dacron conduit containing a porcine valve is the smallest valved conduit manufactured and is used in the youngest infants with the most diminutive pulmonary arterial system. The outcome of patients with such a conduit is unknown. Interventricular septum rupture following blunt chest trauma is a rare cardiac injury that sometimes is difficult to diagnose. Subclavian artery aneurysms are rare. They occur predominantly on the right side. The most frequent cause of proximal subclavian artery aneurysm is atherosclerosis. An aneurysm of the left subclavian artery with normal origin is less common, and it is extremely rare when associated with an aortic coarctation. This report describes the first case of bilateral subclavian artery aneurysms associated with a pseudocoarctation of the aorta. Successful resection of the left subclavian artery aneurysms and the pseudocoarctation of the aorta was achieved using partial cardiopulmonary bypass.

Between May 1983 and March 1, 1995, 50 patients had replacement of an obstructed pulmonary ventricle-pulmonary artery conduit with an autologous tissue reconstruction in which a prosthetic roof was placed over the fibrous tissue bed of the explanted conduit. Abdominal aortic aneurysmectomy is being performed with progressively lower operative mortality and morbidity. Three hundred thirty seven patients have had elective aneurysm repair since 1954. Factors affecting mortality and morbidity in the last 108 cases are analyzed. Seventy-four per cent of patients had pre-existing disease, either cardiac, pulmonary, renal, cerebrovascular, diabetes mellitus, or hypertension. BACKGROUND: The surgical reconstruction of right ventricle outflow tract (RVOT) often requires the implantation of a valved conduit. Homografts are lacking availability and are associated with limited durability in children. Our experience with the Hancock porcine-valved Dacron (DuPont, Wilmington, DE) conduit (Medtronic, Minneapolis, MN) was retrospectively assessed.
METHODS: Follow-up was studied in 214 survivors who underwent 247 conduit implants between January 1990 and January 2007. Pulmonary atresia/ventricular septal defect was present in 86 (40.2%) and truncus arteriosus in 62 (29%).
