A systemic-pulmonary artery shunt in neonates with decreased pulmonary blood flow is technically demanding. We describe our surgical technique, postoperative management, and results in 19 neonates who underwent a modified Blalock-Taussig shunt between April 2003 and March 2006. PURPOSE: To determine the outcome of open preperitoneal mesh repair of recurrent inguinal hernia.
METHODS: A prospective study included 45 consecutive male patients with unilateral recurrent inguinal hernias which were repaired using a polypropylene mesh (15 × 15 cm) placed in the preperitoneal space and anchored by several sutures.

Traumatic lumbar hernias are very rare. Here, we present a case of secondary lumbar hernia. A 44-year-old man sustained a crushing injury. On admission, ecchymotic, fluctuating swelling was present on his left flank with normal vital signs. Subcutaneous intestinal segments were revealed at his left flank on abdominal CT.
