This article describes two cases of delayed-onset Cutibacterium acnes (C acnes) endophthalmitis 1 month after cataract surgery manifesting with unusual epiretinal deposits. Both patients were referred for persistent inflammation after cataract surgery. After failing to respond to a vitreous tap with injection of antibiotics, the patients underwent pars plana vitrectomy and in one of the cases partial posterior capsulectomy for a posterior capsular plaque. FMX101 4% minocycline foam (FMX101 4%) is a novel, topical minocycline formulation for treatment of acne vulgaris. We report that FMX101 4% had an MIC90 of 0.25 μg/ml and was ≥4-fold more active than comparator antimicrobials against a panel of 98 clinical Cutibacterium acnes isolates. AIM: Current study investigates therapeutic efficacy and tolerability of benzoyl peroxide (BPO)- and adapalene (AD)-loaded modified liposomal gel (BPO-AD-mLipo gel) for improved acne therapy.
MATERIALS & METHOD: BPO-AD-mLipo were optimized and loaded in Carbopol gel. Both BPO-AD-mLipo and BPO-AD-mLipo-gel were extensively characterized for different quality attributes. Ex vivo dermal bioavailability, dermal distribution, in vivo anti-acne efficacy and skin irritation studies were performed and compared with marketed formulation (Epiduo®, Galderma Laboratories LP, TX, USA).

Percutaneous coronary revascularization is rarely complicated by infection. Necrotizing fasciitis (NF) is a severe, deep-seated, potentially life-threatening infection of fascia and subcutaneous tissues. We report herein 2 cases of NF in patients undergoing percutaneous transluminal coronary revascularization for treatment of acute coronary syndrome. These are the first 2 reported cases of NF associated with percutaneous coronary revascularization.

OBJECTIVE: Ginkgolic acids and their three monomers were separated from ginkgo sarcotestas. The anti-bacterium activity of ginkgolic acids were tested. The relation between the anti-bacterium activity and side chain of ginkgolic acid were studied.
METHOD: The MIC of ginkgolic acids and their three monomers and salicylic acid were tested.
RESULTS: Ginkgolic acid has strong inhibitive effect on G+-bacterium. Salicylic acid has no side chain, so no anti-bacterial activity. When the length of gingkolic acid side chain is C13:0, it has the strongest anti-bacterial activity in three monomers.

The incidence of bacteraemia following insertion of the laryngeal mask airway (LMA) was investigated in one hundred fit patients. Four cultures were positive: three represented contamination with skin flora; the other was a microaerophilic streptococcus grown from an anaerobic culture bottle. Although this organism can be pathogenic, it may also represent contamination. Our findings suggest that significant bacteraemia on insertion of the LMA is uncommon and is probably no more than with oral intubation. Antibiotic prophylaxis is of doubtful benefit in these circumstances.

In tumour (fibrosarcoma)-inoculated mice, alterations of host resistance to Listeria monocytogenes following tumour growth were examined. Non-immune macrophage-mediated antibacterial resistance was severely suppressed up to day 4 or so after tumour inoculation, but was enhanced thereafter.
