We present a case of an obese 56-year-old male with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), obesity hypoventilation syndrome (OHS), and pituitary macroadenoma, who underwent nasal endoscopic trans-sphenoidal resection. Surgery was performed under general anesthesia, uneventfully as planned. The patient experienced, however, delayed emergence despite receiving adequate neuromuscular blockade agent reversal. CASE DESCRIPTION: A 5-year-old girl presented to the emergency department with a history of foreign body ingestion. A cervico-thoracoabdominal radiograph demonstrate a foreign body in the esophagus, which seemed to show a double rim sign suspecting a button battery. After an emetic episode and expelling a coin, the child became asymptomatic. Close inspection of the X-ray demonstrated that the image was formed by superimposition of 3 circumferential objects of different sizes. A published liquid chromatographic (LC) method was modified for quantitation of phenylbutazone (PBZ) residues in the range of 25-300 ng/mL in bovine milk. BACKGROUND: Flexible nasendoscopy (FNE) is an invaluable multi-disciplinary tool for upper aerodigestive tract (UADT) examination. During the COVID-19 pandemic concerns were raised that FNE had the potential of generating aerosols resulting in human cross-contamination when performed on SARS-COV2 carriers. In the UK, and other European countries, national guidelines were issued restricting FNE to essential cases. We surveyed ENT-UK members and Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT) members to determine the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic (first peak) on FNE practice in the UK.
