A total of 472 consecutive patients with severe head injuries (Glasgow Coma Scale score 8 or below) were studied for assessment of various risk factors affecting the outcome. The patients were divided into two groups - 299 (63 percent) patients who died and 173 (37 percent) patients who survived. Each risk factor pretraumatic, traumatic and post traumatic which might have affected the outcome was compared in each group. The following risk factors significantly increased the chances of mortality : (i) Pretraumatic - advanced age, presence of pre existing disease, (ii) Traumatic - GCS score less

ObjectivePaediatric intensive care unit (PICU) admission represents a traumatic event for many children. Follow-up studies have found post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) rates of 10-30%, with a particular prevalence following admission for sepsis. Dysregulated inflammatory responses are associated with PTSD. Sepsis involves a marked inflammatory response but the relationship between this and PTSD have not been clearly established. In this study we investigate associations between the inflammatory response, psychosocial risk factors, and PTS symptoms following PICU admission for septic shock.

Traumatic injury ranks as the number one cause of death for the younger than 44 years age group and fifth leading cause of death overall (www.nationaltraumainstitute.org/home/trauma_statistics.html). Although improved resuscitation of trauma patients has dramatically reduced immediate mortality from hemorrhagic shock, long-term morbidity and mortality continue to be unacceptably high during the postresuscitation period particularly as a result of impaired host immune responses to subsequent challenges such as surgery or infection. Acute alcohol intoxication (AAI) is a significant risk factor f

INTRODUCTION: Traumatic Subclavian Arterial Ruptures (TSCAR) are rare and with a poor prognosis. The aim of this study was to describe the epidemiological data and the medical charts of the initial care of each patient suffering a TSCAR following a traffic accident.
METHODS: Using the register of the road crash in the Rhone department (France) that records every casualty using the AIS codes, we retrospectively reviewed the prehospital and intrahospital medical, biological and radiological charts of every patient. Follow-up was obtained at day 60 post-trauma.
RESULTS: Among the 1181 severe tr

Background and Objectives: Traumatic injuries are a major public health issue, being the leading cause of death in the U.S. Advancements in medical care, injury prevention, and regional trauma systems have improved survival rates, but there is limited information on outcomes for survivors. Blunt, sharp, and firearm injuries are the primary mechanisms in trauma forensics. This study examines patient outcomes for blunt, sharp, and firearm injuries over 20 years. Materials and Methods: De-identified data were collected from the TriNetX Research network in June 2024. Patients aged 18-90 were categ

We describe an unusual case of total replacement of the exocrine pancreas with fat, which was observed in an autopsy of an assaulted victim. A woman in her early 80s was kicked, stamped and hit several times with firewood. She was hospitalized with disturbance of consciousness, left haemothorax and multiple fractures, and died about three months later. Postmortem examination revealed extensive abrasions and bruises, multiple fractures and internal organ injuries such as contusion and haemorrhage, as well as bronchopneumonia. It was concluded that the cause of her death was hypostatic pneumonia

BACKGROUND: Resuscitative endovascular balloon occlusion of the aorta (REBOA) is an established adjunct treatment of hemorrhagic shock caused by subdiaphragmatic bleeding. However, evidence for its use in prehospital settings and long-distance transportation in remote locations remains limited. Herein, we report a case of hemorrhagic shock secondary to traumatic liver injury, for which prehospital REBOA was successfully employed.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 41-year-old man sustained multiple traumatic injuries after being run over by heavy machinery. The patient was diagnosed with hemorrhagic shock
