Biodegradable EDDS ([S,S]-ethylenediaminedisuccinic acid) is an emerging chelant for enhancing heavy metal extraction. During soil remediation that involves continuous flushing, metal extraction is often limited by the amount of EDDS. Succinate dehydrogenase (SDH)-deficient renal cell carcinoma (RCC) accounts for 0.05-2% of all RCCs. The majority of patients have germline mutations, most frequently in the SDHB gene. People with these mutations are predisposed to developing paragangliomas, phaeochromocytomas and gastrointestinal stromal tumours. Patients should be referred to genetic services for further workup and close surveillance imaging due to the risk of development of further tumours. We present a woman with SDH-deficient RCC and review the literature associated with this uncommon entity.

INTRODUCTION: Actinomycotic brain infection is caused by an organism of the Actinomyces genus. We report here one such case.
METHODS: The methods used included coregistered diffusion, perfusion and spectroscopic magnetic resonance (MR) imaging.
RESULTS: Decreased apparent diffusion coefficient, markedly elevated fractional anisotropy (FA) and reduced cerebral blood flow were observed. MR spectroscopy demonstrated elevated amino acids, acetate and succinate.
CONCLUSION: Elevated FA values may be due to the microstructure of this special brain infection.

The influence of i.v. infusion of hydrocortisone sodium succinate on basal biliary secretion and maximal hepatic excretion of bilirubin was investigated in pentobarbitone anesthetized rabbits. Hydrocortisone caused an increase in bile flow and electrolyte secretion in basal conditions. Myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury (MIRI) remains a major driver of infarct expansion, adverse remodeling, and poor outcomes after reperfusion therapy, yet mechanism-based treatments remain limited. Inspired by the unique profiles of the succinate dehydrogenase inhibitor (SDHI) fungicides empowered by the introduction of β-arylethylamines, we elaborated new antifungal ingredients incorporating β-(hetero)arylethylamines inspired by fluopyram. Thirteen kinds of (hetero)arylethylamines, featuring various heterocycles and concomitant β-modifications, were deployed for achieving β-quinolinyl cyclohexylmethanamine as a novel pharmacophore through an antifungal screen. The subsequent fine-tuning was conducted conveniently by employing commercially inexpensive and easily available acid segments.
