The preparation of this immunological latex consisted of the following steps: the synthesis of polystyrene, polynitrostyrene, polyaminostyrene and polystyrene diazonium salt latex. Sixty two male patients with polar leprosy--38 lepromatous and 24 tuberculoid types were investigated for the presence of antispermatozoal antibodies with special reference to their morphological patterns. Antibodies were detected by three different immunological techniques. Sperm agglutination was found to be the most sensitive. The incidence of antibodies was higher in patients with lepromatous leprosy and was directly proportional to the duration of the disease in both types of leprosy. A microagglutination (MA) test for antibodies to 10 different Legionella antigens was evaluated by comparison with an indirect fluorescent antibody (IFA) test. Sera from 227 patients were investigated. There was good agreement between the two tests, especially when testing sera from patients with a rise in titre. The MA is promising as an easy, quick, cheap and reproducible test for antibodies to Legionella.

Thirty-two subfertile males with sperms in the ejaculate and unilateral testicular obstruction are reported: the diagnosis was established by exploration of scrotum in 26, clinically in 2, 3 had had previous partially successful epididymovasostomies, and 1 had had an epispadias repair. Investigations on 404742 sera by the Automated Micro-Haemagglutination Assay with Treponema pallidum Antigen (AMHA-TP) and the VDRL-test for screening revealed 9848 (2,43%) reactive results in one of the two or in both methods. All reactive samples were checked by the FTA-ABS-test. A reactivity in both, the AMHA-TP and the FTA-ABS indicates a former infection with Treponema pallidum. The VDRL failed to point out reactivity in 4226 of 7474 sera (56,5%) deriving from syphilitic donors. An enzyme-linked-immunosorbent-assay (ELISA) is described for the serodiagnosis of leptospirosis. Using an antigen prepared from a heated culture of a single leptospira strain (Wijnberg) the ELISA is a genusspecific test. The microscopic agglutination test (MAT) served as a reference. ELISA and MAT results agreed in 95% of the sera from 96 leptospirosis patients. One false positive was found in 217 controls. The ELISA is sensitive, specific and relatively easy to perform.

Icterohemorrhagic leptospirosis is a zoonosis which is relatively frequent in rural agricultural or cattle areas. In the severe forms of the disease renal affection is frequent, but the incidence of acute renal insufficiency is far lesser. Three cases of acute renal insufficiency in adult male patients secondary to an infection by Leptospira icterohaemorrhagiae are presented. Two of the patients resided in urban areas and only one of which presented professional risk. The clinical polymorphysm of the illness is confirmed, having observed not only the absence of fever but also that of jaundice.
