A study was conducted to examine the effect of phenamil on adipogenic differentiation and expression of key adipogenic transcripts in hen preadipocytes. Preadipocytes were isolated from 20-week old Single Comb White Leghorn hens (Gallas gallus, Lohman strain). The experiment lasted for 48 h and had six treatments. Several applications of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNT) as nanovectors in biological systems have been reported, and several molecular pathways of cellular entry have been proposed. We employed transmission electron microscopy, confocal fluorescent microscopy, and UV-vis spectroscopic analysis to confirm the internalization of DNA-SWCNT in human umbilical vein endothelial cells. Additionally, by using pharmacological inhibitors as well as genetic approaches, we have found that SWCNT is endocytosed through Rac1- GTPase mediated macropinocytosis in normal endothelial cells.

OBJECTIVE: To determine the effect of pH with or without pepsin or taurocholic acid on the bioelectric properties of gastric squamous mucosa in horses.
SAMPLE POPULATION: Gastric tissues obtained from 16 adult horses that did not have evidence of gastric disease.

In this paper, we show that the pH optimum for the plasma membrane (PM)-associated activity of four glycohydrolases (conduritol B epoxide sensitive β-glucosidase, β-glucosidase GBA2, β-hexosaminidase and β-galactosidase) measured on intact cells is acidic. Moreover, we show that drugs able to modify the efflux of protons across the PM, thus locally affecting the extracellular proton concentration close to the PM, are able to modulate the activities of these enzymes. Cartilage is exposed to mechanical loads, generating at the level of single chondrocytes a hyperosmotic stimulus (HOS). The direct effect of HOS on second messenger pathways in avian chondrocytes was evaluated by fluorimetric and image analysis techniques. HOS caused an immediate intracellular acidification of 0.07 +/- 0.02 pH units (n = 7), followed by an initial pH recovery rate of 0.033 +/- 0.04 pH units/min towards the pre-stimulus baseline values. Concomitantly, the intracellular calcium ([Ca2+]i) responded with a transient rise from baseline value of 84.7 +/- 7.4 nM to peak level of 403.
