BACKGROUND: Sistrunk operation of the thyroglossal duct is a procedure for the removal of a cyst, the middle part of the hyoid bone and tract towards the foramen caecum. Unavoidably, this procedure results in a scar on the skin in the neck area. By performing a bilateral areolar endoscopic Sistrunk operation, this study is the first to develop a procedure that can solve the aesthetic problem. This operation results in both an excellent cosmetic result and the successful treatment of TGDC.

Twenty eight patients with bony lesions involving the scapula were investigated by CT. Three different patient positions were tested for optimal visualisation of the scapula. An asymmetric patient positioning is recommended. CT is of value in the management of lesions involving the scapula and in the demonstration of the extent of the tumour within bone and adjacent soft tissue.

The plastic surgeon is not a miracle worker, as so many of his patients believe. Nevertheless, he can do much to minimize the functional and cosmetic effect of many congenital deformities. If a moral can be drawn from this article it must be that the plastic surgeon should be given an early opportunity to see and assess the patients described here, if only to ease the anxiety in the minds of their parents by appropriate reassurance and discussion.

CONTEXT: Sellar and parasellar masses present with overlapping clinical and radiological features ranging from asymptomatic incidental presentations and hormonal effects to compressive local mass effects. Pituitary masses are diagnosed with increased frequency with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) advancements and availability, but indications and diagnostic outcomes of MRI screening for sellar lesions are not defined. Although pituitary adenomas are the most frequently encountered sellar mass lesions, other etiologies should be considered in the differential diagnosis of a sellar mass.

Mazabraud's syndrome (MZB) is a rare condition in which fibrous dysplasia of bone/the McCune-Albright syndrome (FD/MAS) co-exists with intramuscular myxomas. Both FD and the myxomas harbor the GNAS-mutation. Recent studies have shown that extraskeletal, GNAS-related features are associated with a more severe phenotype of FD/MAS. OBJECTIVE: This study was conducted to examine the histopathologic changes in tamoxifen-treated postmenopausal patients with endometrial thickness > or = 5 mm with transvaginal ultrasonography.
STUDY DESIGN: Thirty-five tamoxifen-treated postmenopausal breast cancer patients underwent transvaginal pelvic ultrasonography with endometrial thickness > or = 5 mm followed by either curettage-hysteroscopy (n = 24), or hysterectomy (n = 11). Endometrial histopathologic findings were examined.
