OBJECTIVE: To quantify the percentage of monopronuclear-derived blastocysts (MNBs) that are potentially useful for reproductive purposes using classic and state-of-the-art chromosome analysis approaches, and to study chromosomal distribution in the inner cell mass (ICM) and trophectoderm (TE) for intertissue/intratissue concordance comparison.
DESIGN: Prospective experimental study.
SETTING: Single-center in vitro fertilization clinic and reproductive genetics laboratory.
PATIENT(S): A total of 1,128 monopronuclear zygotes were obtained between June 2016 and December 2018.

Postmortem personal identification in forensic science is performed using various methods. However, severely burnt bodies are hard to identify using odontological or skeletal features because of carbonization, and sometimes DNA profiling is impracticable because of the unavailability of the relatives. We present a case of a burn victim found after a house fire. Personal identification was attempted, but the body was heavily charred to the bones and the use of physical appearance was impracticable. Suspected nosocomial Aspergillus fumigatus infections in an Australian hematology unit were investigated by molecular typing of clinical and environmental isolates using polymerase chain reaction fingerprinting, CSP typing, and multilocus microsatellite typing. Only multilocus microsatellite typing revealed that all isolates were genetically distinct. The selection of an appropriate typing method is essential for effective outbreak investigations.
