A high-speed liquid chromatographic method for analysis of sulfasalazine (salicylazosulfapyridine) in bulk powder and tablet dosage form is presented. Analysis is accomplished with a reverse-phase partition column and 10% 2-propanol in pH 7.7 phosphate buffer as the mobile phase. The method of analysis utilizes a simple, one-step, solubilization procedure with dimethylformamide, addition of an internal standard, and chromatography. The method is specific for sulfasalazine in the presence of starting materials, degradation products, or by-products from its manufacture.

The dosage form of medamine-medapec was found to have a high antiechinococcal activity in experiments on laboratory animals. Its efficacy was shown in treating larval alveolar echinococciasis in mice and cotton rats with different doses and courses as compared with medamine and albendazole. It was ascertained that for its high larvicidal activity, medapec should be given to animals regularly during a day. The daily dose of the drug should be gradually increased. In complying with these conditions, the duration of effective courses of therapy drastically reduces.

A differential scanning calorimetry and infrared spectrophotometry study of potential interactions between oxamniquine and praziquantel, two synergistic anti-parasitic drugs, indicated that they did not interact on fusion. Mixtures of the two drugs with each of nine common pharmaceutical excipients (Ac-Di-Sol, Avicel, Crospovidone, calcium phosphate, magnesium stearate, starch, lactose, PEG 6000, stearic acid) appeared to interact only with stearic acid. These results suggested that a combination solid dosage form was feasible.

New unknown impurity at m/z 421.15 was observed during the accelerated stability analysis (40 °C/75% relative humidity) in the multi-component tablets of amlodipine besylate by reversed-phase ultra-high performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (UHPLC-MS). UHPLC-MS and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) techniques were employed to identify and fully characterize the degradation compound. The degradation product was unambiguously identified as 3-ethyl 5-methyl 4-(2-chlorophenyl)-6-methyl-2-(morpholin-2-yl)-1,4-dihydropyridine-3,5-dicarboxylate and mechanism of its formation was proposed.

BACKGROUND: Alport syndrome (AS) is a hereditary disease of the glomerular basement membrane in the kidney characterized by progressive renal failure, sensorineural deafness, and/or ocular abnormalities.
