Tumors arising from the pigment epithelium of the ciliary body are rare and most commonly occur in white adults. We describe a tumor that was clinically indistinguishable from a melanoma or medulloepithelioma occurring in a 7-year-old Japanese boy. Three months after initial evaluation, the eye was enucleated because of intractable intraocular pressure elevation and pain. On pathologic examination the tumor was found to fill approximately one third of the anterior chamber. A new surgical technique, cryosurgical iridocyclectomy, was used in the excision of an iris melanoma encroaching on the ciliary body. Iris-tumor-anterior ciliary body segment was removed en bloc. Two surgical cases of retinal dysplasia are reported. The one is unlateral (left-sided) with microphthalmus and the other bilateral. Chromosome test in the latter case showed no abnormality. In both cases the left eye was enucleated under the clinical diagnosis of retinoblastoma. METHODS: A 14-year-old intact male Cairn terrier was evaluated at Triangle Animal Eye Clinic for dense corneal opacity of the right eye. Two dogs, one from California and one from Arizona, were found to have aberrant infections caused by filarial nematodes of the genus Onchocerca. Penetrating keratoplasty was done in 112 patients. Two types of donor material were used: whole eyes preserved in a moist chamber at 4 degrees C, and corneoscleral segments preserved in MK-medium 4 degrees C.
