BACKGROUND: Herpes simplex viruses (HSV-1 and HSV-2) can be transmitted both orally and sexually and cause lifelong morbidity and, in some cases, meningitis and encephalitis. Although several clinical trials using subunit antigens have been conducted, no vaccine exists. One problem in viral treatment is the emergence of drug resistance through mutations, thereby conferring resistance. Treatment with antibodies targeting multiple epitopes, such as antibody cocktails or bispecific antibodies (BsAbs), should reduce the likelihood of viral escape.

Diffuse axonal injury is a primary feature of head trauma and is one of the most frequent causes of mortality and morbidity. Nine hybridoma cell lines secreting monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) against Trichinella spiralis muscle larvae (ML) excretory/secretory antigens (ESA) were developed. The molecular pathogenesis of schistosomal liver fibrosis has been studied in a murine model of Schistosoma mansoni. A novel fibroblast growth factor, fibrosin, was identified as a product of a subpopulation of CD4+ lymphocytes resident in the hepatic egg granulomas. Following infection with EBV, patients have selectively raised serum levels of immunoglobulins encoded by the VH4-21 gene. The disialoganglioside GD3 is expressed on the surface of soft tissue sarcoma, malignant melanoma, and other malignant cells and is, therefore, a potential target for therapeutic monoclonal antibodies. Intravenously administered R24, a murine IgG3 monoclonal antibody to GD3, induces inflammation and tumor regression at sites of metastatic malignant melanoma. R24 5 mg/m2 was given intravenously every other day for six doses to 10 patients with pulmonary metastases from a primary soft tissue sarcoma of the extremity for whom thoracotomy was planned. Antibody purification using proteins A and G has been a standard method for research and industrial processes. The conventional method, however, includes a three-step process, including buffer exchange, before chromatography. In this study, we prepared monoclonal antibodies against morphine, methadone, babital, methamphetamine, and phencyclidine, then developed a dot-ELISA method by such antibodies to test their efficacy in clinical application and the screening of urine samples. It was found that there were 36 narcotics-positive drug users, including 28 morphine positive, six methamphetamine positive, and two positive for both. All the results were confirmed by commercial drug testing kits.
