Protection from second booster vaccines and natural immunity against SARS-CoV-2 infections, 2022-2023.

We estimated the vaccine effectiveness (VE) of second monovalent and bivalent booster vaccines containing Omicron BA.1 or BA.4/BA.5 and the protection conferred by natural immunity against SARS-CoV-2 infection in Luxembourg. We conducted a test-negative case-control study among residents aged 60 years or older by integrating national socio-demographic, COVID-19 vaccination, and testing data, achieving full population coverage. Using conditional logistic regression, we estimated absolute and relative VE of monovalent and bivalent boosters and natural immunity from prior infection. Our analysis

Measles and rubella serosusceptibity among population vaccinated with different schedules: the potential impact on measles-rubella elimination in Iran.

BACKGROUND: Iranian children were vaccinated with the scheduled two doses of monovalent measles vaccine (mMV) from 1984. In December 2003, a nationwide campaign of measles-rubella (MR) immunization was established to vaccinate 5-25 year- old individuals. In 2004, the mMV was replaced with measles- mumps- rubella (MMR) vaccine. Despite the high vaccination coverage, the outbreaks of measles still occur in the country. In this Study, the MR immunity status of various age groups, vaccinated with different schedules was investigated, and the immunologic response of seronegative subjects to revacci

Using an effective TB vaccination regimen to identify immune responses associated with protection in the murine model.

A vaccine against tuberculosis (TB), a disease resulting from infection with Mycobacterium tuberculosis (M.tb), is urgently needed to prevent more than a million deaths per year. Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) is the only available vaccine against TB but its efficacy varies throughout the world. Subunit vaccine candidates, based on recombinant viral vectors expressing mycobacterial antigens, are one of the strategies being developed to boost BCG-primed host immune responses and efficacy. A promising vaccination regimen composed of intradermal (i.d.) BCG prime, followed by intranasally (i.n.) a

BCG as a game-changer to prevent the infection and severity of COVID-19 pandemic?

The impact of COVID-19 is changing with country wise and depend on universal immunization policies. COVID-19 badly affects countries that did not have universal immunization policies or having them only for the selective population of countries (highly prominent population) like Italy, USA, UK, Netherland, etc. Universal immunization of BCG can provide great protection against the COVID-19 infection because the BCG vaccine gives broad protection against respiratory infections. BCG vaccine induces expressions of the gene that are involved in the antiviral innate immune response against viral in

A physician's guide to the 2-dose schedule of MenB-FHbp vaccine.

Meningococcal serogroup B (MenB) is the predominant cause of invasive meningococcal disease in the United States, with older adolescents and young adults attending college at increased risk. Notably, MenB caused all meningococcal disease outbreaks at US colleges between 2011 and 2018. MenB disease is vaccine-preventable. The MenB-FHbp vaccine can be administered on a 2-dose (0 and 6 months) schedule to healthy adolescents and young adults or as a tailored 3-dose (0, 1-2, and 6 months) schedule for individuals at increased risk. This review focuses on the 2-dose schedule (0 and 6 months) of Men

Response to third rubella vaccine dose.

Limited data exist on the immunogenicity of a third dose of the measles, mumps, and rubella vaccine (MMR). In this study, our aim was to evaluate the long-term rubella immunogenicity afforded by two childhood MMR doses of the Norwegian vaccination program in a cohort of conscripts and to determine the effect of an additional dose of MMR vaccine, in order to inform vaccination policy. Blood samples from Norwegian conscripts (n = 495) taken both before and eight months after administration of a dose of MMR vaccine were tested using an enzyme immunoassay to measure anti-rubella IgG. Concentration

Immunogenicity and safety of a second dose of a measles-mumps-rubella vaccine administered to healthy participants 7 years of age or older: A phase III, randomized study.

The introduction of vaccination programs against measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) led to significant global reduction in morbidity and mortality from these diseases. The currently recommended MMR vaccination schedule in the United States of America comprises 2 vaccine doses typically administered at 12-15 months and 4-6 years, respectively. Considering recent outbreaks in the USA, catch-up vaccination with an additional dose of MMR vaccine could contribute to outbreak control and community protection. This phase III, observer-blind, randomized controlled trial (NCT02058563) assessed the immun

Lot-to-lot consistency, safety and immunogenicity of 3 lots of Haemophilus influenzae type b conjugate vaccine: results from a phase III randomized, multicenter study in infants.

BACKGROUND: Vaccination against Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) is included in routine pediatric immunization schedule in the United States. Previous vaccine shortages have created the need for additional options for Hib vaccination. METHODS: This phase III, randomized, multi-centered study (NCT01000974) evaluated the safety and immunogenicity of a monovalent tetanus toxoid-conjugate Hib vaccine (Hib-TT) compared to a monovalent (Hib-TT control) and a combination Hib-TT vaccine. We hierarchically assessed lot-to-lot consistency of 3 Hib-TT lots and non-inferiority of Hib-TT to Hib-TT cont

Adenovirus prime, Env protein boost vaccine protects against neutralization-resistant SIVsmE660 variants in rhesus monkeys.

Previous studies have shown that DNA prime, Ad5 boost vaccines protect against neutralization-sensitive but not neutralization-resistant virus variants within the SIVsmE660 swarm. Here we show that Ad prime, Env protein boost vaccines protect against neutralization-resistant SIVsmE660 variants. We perform two studies in rhesus monkeys with Ad35/Ad26 vectors expressing SIVmac239 Gag/Pol/Env with or without an AS01B-adjuvanted SIVmac32H gp140 protein boost. In a repetitive, low-dose challenge study, we observe robust protection against acquisition of infection by both Ad Alone and Ad/Env vaccine

Immunogenicity and Safety of a Booster Injection of DTap-IPV//Hib (Pentaxim) Administered Concomitantly With Tetravalent Dengue Vaccine in Healthy Toddlers 15-18 Months of Age in Mexico: A Randomized Trial.

BACKGROUND: The live, attenuated, tetravalent dengue vaccine (CYD-TDV) is licensed in a number of dengue endemic countries for individuals ≥9 years of age. Before the integration of any vaccine into childhood vaccination schedules, a lack of immune interference and acceptable safety when coadministered with other recommended vaccines should be demonstrated. METHODS: This randomized, multi-center phase III trial was conducted in Mexico. Healthy toddlers (n = 732) received a booster dose of a licensed pentavalent combination vaccine [diphtheria, tetanus, acellular pertussis, inactivated polio v

Exceptional Antibodies Produced by Successive Immunizations.

Antibodies stand between us and pathogens. Viruses mutate quickly to avoid detection, and antibodies mutate at similar rates to hunt them down. This death spiral is fueled by specialized proteins and error-prone polymerases that change DNA sequences. Here, we explore how B lymphocytes stay in the race by expressing activation-induced deaminase, which unleashes a tsunami of mutations in the immunoglobulin loci. This produces random DNA substitutions, followed by selection for the highest affinity antibodies. We may be able to manipulate the process to produce better antibodies by expanding the

Vaccination status and sequence of vaccinations as risk factors for hospitalisation among outpatients in a high mortality country.

BACKGROUND: Most developing countries are implementing the WHO immunisation programme. Although vaccines reach most children, many modifications of the recommended schedule are observed in practice. We investigated the association between vaccination status and risk of hospitalisation in Guinea-Bissau. METHODS: From May 2003 to May 2004, all consultations of children less than five years of age at the outpatient clinic of the paediatric ward at the national hospital in Bissau were registered. For each consultation, information was collected about the child's name, sex, age and socio-cultural

A 5-year follow-up of antibody response in children vaccinated with single dose of live attenuated SA14-14-2 Japanese encephalitis vaccine: immunogenicity and anamnestic responses.

Out of 98 subjects who had participated in the 2000 JE vaccination campaign, 69 people were enrolled in the tests of 2004 and 2005 for the evaluation of long term immune response of a single dose of live attenuated SA14-14-2 JE vaccine. 89.9% of study subjects (62/69) had maintained a high level of neutralizing antibody until 2004 as their GMT was measured as 133 (Min 11, Max 2991). Forty-four subjects were still positive in 2005, 5 years after JE vaccination, and their neutralizing antibody positive rate was significantly higher than that of 69 age-sex matched unvaccinated control subjects: 6

Cutaneous delayed-type hypersensitivity (DTH) in a multi-formulation comparator trial of the anti-falciparum malaria vaccine candidate RTS,S in rhesus macaques.

BACKGROUND: Studies are underway to identify more immunogenic formulations of the existing anti-falciparum malaria vaccine RTS,S/AS02A. To supplement in vitro immunogenicity assays, cutaneous delayed-type hypersensitivity (DTH) may be a useful indicator of functional, cell-mediated immunogenicity. METHODS: Adult rhesus monkeys were immunized with saline or one of four RTS,S/adjuvant formulations: RTS,S/AS01B, RTS,S/AS02A-standard (current formulation), RTS,S/AS05 or RTS,S/AS06 at 0, 4, and 12 weeks. Reduction of antibody response to an 11-valent pneumococcal vaccine coadministered with a vaccine containing acellular pertussis components.

In pneumococcal conjugate vaccines (PCVs), polysaccharide antigens are often conjugated to protein carriers related to other common vaccines. It is therefore important to test PCV interaction with other pediatric vaccines when administered simultaneously. We assessed the immune response to an 11-valent PCV conjugated to diphtheria and tetanus carriers (PncD/T11), administered concomitantly, but in separate sites, with a combined vaccine containing epitopes related antigenically to the carriers: polyribosylribitol phosphate-tetanus tox oid (PRP-T), diphtheria toxoid (DT), and tetanus toxoid (TT

Long-term immunity after vaccination against tick-borne encephalitis with Encepur using the rapid vaccination schedule.

148 of 157 invited adult subjects who had participated in previous studies were enrolled in this extension study for evaluation of immunogenicity and safety of the second TBE booster immunization. All subjects had been previously immunized in studies with Chiron's formerly marketed TBE vaccine (containing polygeline as the stabilizer) according to the rapid vaccination schedule (i.e. primary immunization on days 0, 7, 21 and first booster immunization at month 15). All subjects were administered the second booster with Chiron's new TBE vaccine, which is free of protein-derived stabilizers, 36

[Antibodies against vaccine-preventable diseases in pregnant women and their offspring. Measles, mumps, rubella, poliomyelitis, and varicella].

In the eastern part of Germany, the age of primigravid women has clearly increased since 1990. This may change the protection provided by antibodies in pregnant women as well as their newborns. The objective of the present study was to assess antibodies against vaccine-preventable viral infectious diseases in pregnant women and their offspring to draw conclusions about their protection. Maternal and cord blood samples of 290 women from the eastern part of Germany with a mean age of 28 years were analyzed for antibodies against measles, mumps, rubella, poliomyelitis, and varicella. The efficacy of Japanese encephalitis vaccine in Henan, China: a case-control study.

A population based case-control study to evaluate Japanese encephalitis (JE) vaccine efficacy was carried out in Gusi County, Henan Province, China from June to September in 1991. This study showed that the JE vaccine had a strong protective effect. The estimate of the vaccine efficacy was 78% (95% CI = 16-94%). An unimmunized child was at 4.54 times greater risk of developing JE than were fully immunized children during the study period. The present study may have underestimated the vaccine efficacy due to evaluation based on routine vaccination which might have been affected by vaccination m
