Comparison of objective and subjective visual quality after flapless laser vision correction for mild to moderate myopia: SMILE vs PRK.

PURPOSE: To investigate the differences in surgical results and the objective and subjective quality of vision (QoV) of patients after small incision lenticule extraction (SMILE) versus alcohol-assisted photorefractive keratectomy (PRK). METHODS: Medical records of patients treated with SMILE and PRK were retrospectively examined. Visual quality, biometric parameters, Strehl ratio (SR), and corneal higher-order aberrations (HOAs) within a 6.0 mm area were recorded. The effective optical zone (EOZ) and decentration were measured using a tangential pre-post operation difference map. Subjective

Corneal ectasia following photorefractive keratectomy: a confocal microscopic case report and literature review.

The occurrence of corneal ectasia after photorefractive keratectomy is a rare but serious complication of refractive surgery. Possible risk factors are not well assessed, but a probable reason is the failure to detect keratoconus preoperatively. In this report, we describe a case of corneal ectasia after photorefractive keratectomy in a patient who presented a suspicious tomography pattern preoperatively but had no degenerative alterations associated with pathologic keratoconus, as revealed by in vivo corneal confocal microscopy. We also review eligible case reports of post-photorefractive ker

Comparison of refractive surgeries (SMILE, LASIK, and PRK) with and without corneal crosslinking: systematic review and meta-analysis.

Corneal crosslinking (CXL) is used for treating keratoconus and post-laser in situ keratomileusis ectasia. However, refractive surgery is not usually performed with prophylactic CXL. Therefore, we performed a meta-analysis comparing outcomes of refractive surgeries with vs without prophylactic CXL. We systematically searched databases for studies comparing refractive surgeries for myopic correction with vs without prophylactic corneal crosslinking. Review Manager 5.4.1 was used to perform statistical analysis. We included 2820 eyes from 28 studies. Compared with refractive surgery alone, surge

Case report: the correction of a high magnitude of astigmatism with laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis.

BACKGROUND: Laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) has undergone several evolutions since it was first approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Currently, excimer lasers are approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to treat refractive errors with a standard ablation profile, a wavefront-optimized ablation profile, or a wavefront-guided ablation profile. Wavefront-optimized ablation profiles provide a simple method to precompensate for the expected fourth-order spherical aberration and higher-order astigmatism in the average eye. CASE REPORT: We report a case of a 39-
