Caring for the technology dependent child--a case study.

Children who are dependent on medical technology present unique challenges for families and health professionals who attempt to care for them at home. The medical and nursing needs of these children challenge and stretch the financial, social and emotional capacities of parents in ways that service providers do not fully understand. Case management is a collaborative parent/nurse model of community nursing practice that has been implemented to meet the needs of children and families with complex special needs where the care goes across primary and secondary care settings. The aim of case manag

Workplace gaslighting in nursing practice: a concept analysis.

BACKGROUND: Gaslighting is a subtle and insidious form of psychological abuse in the workplace that operates through the distortion or denial of reality and the induction of cognitive doubt, ultimately undermining individuals' confidence in their perceptions and professional judgment. Although the concept has gained increasing attention in organizational and psychological literature, gaslighting remains theoretically underdeveloped and conceptually ambiguous within nursing practice. It is frequently conflated with related phenomena such as workplace bullying, psychological violence, or incivil

Virtual reality applications in emergency nursing education: a scoping review.

BACKGROUND: Emergency nursing education demands repeated exposure to high-acuity clinical scenarios that conventional instructional approaches cannot fully provide due to safety, ethical, and resource constraints. Virtual reality (VR) has emerged as an immersive, interactive alternative capable of replicating high-stakes emergencies in a controlled environment; however, specialty-specific evidence on its educational utility in emergency nursing remains limited and fragmented across existing reviews. This scoping review addresses three questions: how VR is currently applied in emergency nursing

A One-Year Study Using Digital Biomarkers From Sensing Technologies to Assess Changes in Physical Activity Levels and Sleep Quality in Nursing Home Residents With Dementia: Observational Study.

BACKGROUND: Proxy-rated questionnaires remain the standard for the assessment of activity and sleep for people with dementia living in nursing homes. Sensing technologies, such as wearables, can generate continuous data that provide quantitative insights into daily activities and behavioral and psychological symptoms, such as sleep disturbance. This study explores the use of sensing technologies in the detection of changes in physical activity levels and sleep behaviors over time. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to explore the long-term capabilities of multimodal sensing technologies for assessing

Machine Learning Models for Predicting Radiation Dermatitis in Breast Cancer: A Scoping Review.

BACKGROUND: Artificial intelligence, particularly machine learning, has great potential to improve health outcomes, including predicting adverse conditions. In breast cancer, machine learning models can help personalize prevention strategies for radiation-induced cutaneous toxicity. METHODS: This scoping review aimed to explore machine learning models for predicting radiation dermatitis in women with breast cancer. Data collection was conducted in November 2023 from 7 electronic databases and gray literature, with no restrictions on publication year. Publication selection was supported by the

Self-care and mentors to reduce stress and enhance administrative ability.

This article has considered two options available for nurses seeking career advancement in LTC. Orem's self-care model offers an approach to assist the DON to cope with stressors in the LTC setting through self-care. Mentoring also offers a strategy to assist the novice leader with professional growth. Mentoring is an emerging concept in nursing. Mentoring is of special significance in LTC because there is a shortage of DONs. Experienced DONs in LTC who have learned to handle the stresses that overwhelm the novice need to mentor younger DONs and others interested in a DON position. The use of

Effect of Continuous Nursing Based on IKAP Theory on Periodontal Indicators and Self-Management Ability of Patients With Periodontal Disease.

Periodontitis, a chronic inflammatory disease affecting over a billion people globally, requires effective long-term self-management for successful outcomes. However, a significant gap persists between patient knowledge and sustained behavioural change. This review proposes and synthesizes evidence for a paradigm shift in periodontal care: continuous nursing based on the Information-Knowledge-Attitude-Practice (IKAP) theory. We deconstruct the IKAP framework as a sequential cascade where targeted Information is converted to personalized Knowledge, shaping positive Attitudes to ultimately drive

Workaholism, Mindfulness, and Work-Related Quality of Life Among Nursing Educators in Saudi Nursing Colleges: A Multisite Cross-Sectional Study.

Workaholism has been widely examined among employees across occupational groups, but limited empirical evidence is available on its association with work-related quality of life (WRQoL) among nursing educators. This study examined whether mindfulness statistically mediated the association between workaholism and WRQoL among nursing educators. A multisite observational study using a cross-sectional and correlational design was conducted among nursing educators from four nursing colleges in Saudi Arabia using consecutive and snowball sampling. Between February and July 2025, data were collected

Exploring the link between Paradoxical leadership and nurses' career maturity: the mediating role of organizational learning.

BACKGROUND: Paradoxical leadership, which strikes a balance between control and flexibility, is becoming more and more acknowledged as being essential for promoting nurses' career maturity, adaptation, and continuous development in today's complicated healthcare environments. Nevertheless, little is known about the processes that connect leadership traits to professional development, especially the part played by organizational learning. AIM: This study aimed to evaluate nurses' professional maturity and perceived paradoxical leadership, to investigate their relationship, and to determine the

Concordance of a Web-based Lung Cancer Risk Self-Assessment Tool With Nursing Risk Assessment.

BACKGROUND: The Alberta Lung Cancer Screening Program implemented a web-based risk self-assessment tool using the Prostate, Lung, Colorectal, Ovarian Model 2012 (PLCOm2012) model. To determine the accuracy of individual self-risk assessments, this study compared user online entries with program nurse assessments. RESEARCH QUESTION: Is the web-based lung cancer risk self-assessment tool based on the PLCOm2012 model accurate in predicting lung cancer risk among Albertans aged 50 to 74 years when incorporated into an existing lung cancer screening program? STUDY DESIGN AND METHODS: This retrosp

Stakeholder perceptions of a nurse led walk-in centre.

BACKGROUND: As many countries face primary care medical workforce shortages and find it difficult to provide timely and affordable care they seek to find new ways of delivering first point of contact health care through developing new service models. In common with other areas of rural and regional Australia, the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) is currently experiencing a general practitioner (GP) workforce shortage which impacts significantly on the ability of patients to access GP led primary care services. The introduction of a nurse led primary care Walk-in Centre in the ACT aimed to fu

Psychological capital, well-being, and patient safety attitudes of nurses and midwives: A cross-sectional survey.

Nursing and midwifery are unarguably stressful endeavors requiring high levels of psychological capital and coping strategies. The impact of the work environment on patient safety outcomes suggests that high nurse/midwife stress may be associated with more adverse patient events. The purpose of this study was to explore the psychological capital of clinical nurses and midwives and identify explanatory factors (including psychological capital, well-being, and health-related behaviors) contributing to attitudes to patient safety. A descriptive web- and paper-based survey comprising a convenience
