OBJECTIVE: Pelvic organ prolapse affect 50% of parous women over 50 years of age. The lifetime risk of undergoing a single operation for prolapse or incontinence by age 80 is 11.1%. Recurrence rates for classical prolapse surgery are as high as 30%. For this reason various graft materials have been proposed to improve the long-term surgical outcomes. The aim of our study was to investigate the safety and efficacy of posterior colporrhaphy incorporating Vypro II (polyglactin 910-polypropylene) mesh in the treatment of posterior vaginal wall prolapse.

In 197 among plastic operations of the groin without tension, using a mesh and new method was added: P.H.S.--Prolene Hernia System--mesh. At the Surgical Clinic of the General Faculty Hospital and First Medical Faculty Charles University in Prague this method is used for plastic operations of the inguinal canal since October 1999. Every year some 300 patients with inguinal hernia are operated, incl. 18.7% operations or multiple relapses. 91% of the group are men and the mean period of hospitalization is 4.9 +/- 3 days. 300 laparoscopic treatments of inguinal hernia repair have be done in our hospital between may 1992 and juin 1994. 134 times we have seen a median hernia and 166 times a lateral one. In 44 patients (14%) we did the repair of hernia for bilateral disease. In 66 cases we underwent for recidive; 55 times after hernia repair by the Bassini technique or Shouldice technique, and only 8 times after laparoscopic repair. Iatrogenic splenic artery (SA) injury during laparoscopic total gastrectomy (LTG) is rare but a potentially catastrophic event and remains one of the major causes of conversion to open procedure. Detection of microplastics (MPs) in food is critical for assessing human exposure and their potential health concerns. In this study, the Fenton reaction was optimised for isolating MPs from instant coffee and ground coffee with an overall recovery efficiency of 96.7 ± 2.27%.
