BACKGROUND: Migration of oral implants through a previously consolidated graft is an extremely rare event. We reported 2 cases of migration at least 6 months postimplantation in sinus grafted in 2 stages, consequently over 6-month graft maturation period.
CASE DESCRIPTION: Sinus elevations and implants placement in 2 patients were performed. Clinical and radiographic follow-up after the prosthetic rehabilitation showed displacement of 1 implant in each patient through the histopathologically verified stable grafts.

OBJECTIVE: Bone implants are now widely used to replace missing teeth. Bone grafting (sinus lift) is a very useful way to increase the bone volume of the maxilla in patients with bone atrophy. There is a 6- to 9-month delay for the receiver grafted site to heal before the implants can be placed. Computed tomography is a useful method to measure the amount of remaining bone before implantation and to evaluate the quality of the receiver bone at the end of the healing period. Texture analysis is a non-invasive method useful to characterize bone microarchitecture on X-ray images.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the augmentation volume of a sinus graft according to the time and graft materials based on cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) scans and to assess efficacy of a bioabsorbable membrane.
METHODS: Fourteen patients were investigated, and volumetric analysis was performed using OnDemand 3DTM software (Cybermed, Seoul, Korea). CBCT scans were performed on patients before surgery, immediately after surgery, 6 months after surgery, and 1 year after surgery. Following this analysis, the volumetric data were compared with the actual grafted volumes.
