Candida lusitaniae is a vaginal commensal. Cases of vaginitis, vulvovaginitis and recurrent vulvovaginitis caused by this yeast are very rare. In the oral cavity, C. lusitaniae causes stomatitis in immunocompromised patients. We describe a case of stomatitis and angular cheilitis caused by C. lusitaniae in a female patient with type 2 diabetes. The infection was most likely transmitted following genital-oral intercourse with the patient's girlfriend, who was affected by C. lusitaniae vulvovaginitis.

To study the effects of different periods of ozone (O3) fumigation on photosynthesis in leaves of the Monarch birch (Betula maximowicziana), we undertook free air O3 fumigation to Monarch birch seedlings at a concentration of 60 nmol mol(-1) during daytime. Hand, foot, and mouth disease, also known as vesicular stomatitis with exanthem, is a vesicular disorder affecting both skin and oral mucosa. The disease is usually caused by Coxsackie virus A-16 and affects mainly children. The oral lesions may require differential diagnosis from other conditions, such as herpetic gingivostomatitis, aphthous stomatitis, and herpangina. Hand, foot, and mouth disease should not be confused with foot-and-mouth disease of cattle, which is rare in human beings and is not caused by Coxsackie virus.

Canker sores and benign traumatic ulcers must not make a novice carcinoma go unnoticed. Apart from bacterial stomatitis of dental origin, the most common infectious stomatitis is viral with herpes and papilloma, mycotic with acute and chronic forms. Oral dryness and glossodynia are two common situations that are difficult to manage.

Thirty-four patients with acute stomatogenic sepsis developing in grave ulcerative necrotic stomatitis (including that in Stevens-Johnson's and Lyell's syndromes) were examined. Homeostasis parameters were shifted in these patients. To facilitate timely diagnosis of acute stomatogenic sepsis, the authors offer a differential diagnostic table. Patients with grave forms of stomatitis are recommended to be referred for examination and treatment to specialized dentistry hospitals in order to early diagnose the disease and prevent the development of acute sepsis.

The purpose of the study was to determine the prevalence of oral mucosal lesions among institutionalized elderly. The study population comprised 486 elderly from eight nursing homes, and 199 elderly from five hospital long-term care facilities in the eastern part of Denmark.
