Interaction between anxiety symptoms and decreased meaning in life: One possible pathway linking childhood trauma and depression- evidence from the network analysis.

BACKGROUND: Robust evidence suggests that individuals exposed to childhood trauma are more vulnerable to suffering from later depression. However, the pathway connecting the experience of childhood trauma and depression remains unclear. PARTICIPANTS AND SETTINGS: A total of 3663 participants from six colleges in China completed the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire-Short Form, Patient Health Questionnaire-9, Generalized Anxiety Disorder Scale-7, and Multidimensional Existential Meaning Scale. Among all participants, 3115 (Mage = 19.20, SDage = 1.38, males = 1384) participants met the selective s

12-week double-blind randomized multicenter study of efficacy and safety of agomelatine (25-50 mg/day) versus escitalopram (10-20 mg/day) in out-patients with severe generalized anxiety disorder.

Treatment of severely symptomatic patients with generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) raises particular concerns for clinicians. This 12-week double-blind study evaluated the efficacy of agomelatine (25-50 mg/day) in the treatment of patients with severe GAD, using escitalopram (10-20 mg) as active comparator. The primary outcome measure was the change from baseline of the total score on the Hamilton Anxiety scale (HAM-A) at week 12. Secondary outcome measures included rate of response to treatment (at least 50% score reduction from baseline) in the HAM-A psychic and somatic anxiety sub-scores, C

Reducing Anxiety with Nature and Gardening (RANG): Evaluating the Impacts of Gardening and Outdoor Activities on Anxiety among U.S. Adults during the COVID-19 Pandemic.

The COVID-19 pandemic impacted mental health. Growing research has identified the mental health benefits of nature contact, including gardening. We used a cross-sectional survey to investigate the association between gardening and other outdoor activities with anxiety among U.S. adults. The RANG (Reducing Anxiety with Nature and Gardening) survey was distributed online from June−September 2020 through social media (Twitter and Facebook) and a national Master Gardeners listserv. Survey questions captured demographics, COVID-19 experiences, gardening, outdoor activities, and anxiety using the Ge

A Cross-Sectional Study of Short-Video Viewing and Young Adult Health: Dose-Response Relationships with Sleep, Dream Anxiety, Ocular Surface, and Quality of Life.

Background: Short-video platforms (e.g., Douyin, TikTok) have gained immense popularity among young adults, yet their addictive potential and health consequences remain understudied. Unlike gaming addiction, which has been linked to myopia and mental distress, short-video viewing may pose distinct risks due to its fragmented, high-frequency, and pre-sleep usage patterns. This study aimed to investigate the relationships between short-video viewing and multifaceted health outcomes in Chinese young adults, with a focus on dose-response relationships. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conduct

Health anxiety moderates the association between morning cortisol and earlier-onset posttraumatic stress disorder: A 2-year injury cohort study.

This study investigated whether baseline morning serum cortisol predicts the timing of PTSD onset following injury and determined whether this association is moderated by health anxiety. In a prospective injury cohort (N = 895), morning serum cortisol was measured and health anxiety was assessed using the Illness Attitude Scales (IAS) at baseline. PTSD was diagnosed with the Clinician-Administered PTSD Scale (CAPS-5) during follow-ups at 3, 6, 12, and 24 months. Earlier-onset PTSD was defined as onset within the first 6 months post-injury; delayed-onset PTSD was defined as onset after 6 months

Evaluation of affective temperament and anxiety-depression levels of patients with polycystic ovary syndrome.

BACKGROUND: Women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) are reported to experience depressive episodes at a higher rate than healthy controls (HC). Affective temperament features are psychiatric markers that may help to predict and identify vulnerability to depression in women with PCOS. Our aim was to evaluate the affective temperaments of women with PCOS and to investigate the association with depression and anxiety levels and laboratory variables in comparison with HC. METHODS: The study included 71 women with PCOS and 50 HC. Hormonal evaluations were performed for women with PCOS. Physica

Examination of the Reliability and Validity of the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-3 (MMPI-3) in a Preoperative Bariatric Surgery Sample.

Presurgical psychological assessment of bariatric surgery candidates aims to identify psychosocial risk factors and provide treatment recommendations to facilitate optimal outcomes. Such assessment typically includes psychometric testing and a clinical interview. The Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI) has been commonly used as a broadband measure to assess a number of psychosocial domains in bariatric clinics. The newest version of the MMPI, the MMPI-3, was recently released. This study sought to (1) establish whether the MMPI-3 is comparable to the MMPI-2-RF in a sample of pat

Physiological, psychological, and behavioral factors and white coat hypertension.

Patients with hypertension in the clinic but not during daily activities ("white coat" hypertension) may be at lower risk of hypertensive morbidity and mortality than patients with hypertension in both settings ("persistent" hypertension). We hypothesized that the white coat phenomenon was due to greater blood pressure reactivity to the stress of a clinic visit and that, as a consequence, white coat hypertensive patients would display greater blood pressure reactivity to exercise and mental stress, as well as increased emotional reactivity and higher levels of anger, anxiety, or depression. We

The Effectiveness of a 6-Week Online Mindfulness-Based Intervention on Patients With Cervical Cancer or High-Grade Squamous Intraepithelial Lesion: A Randomized Controlled Trial Using Multimodal Data of Scales and Electroencephalogram.

BACKGROUND: Patients with cervical cancer or High-Grade Squamous Intraepithelial Lesion (HSIL) often experience mental problems such as anxiety and depression. Online mindfulness-based interventions offer accessible mental health support. However, evidence for cervical cancer or HSIL patients remains scarce, and evaluations often rely solely on self-reported scales, with a lack of neurophysiological assessments. This study aimed to assess the effectiveness of a 6-week online mindfulness-based intervention on mental health outcomes in this population by using scales, with exploratory frontal el

Gender differences in anxiety and depressive symptomatology determined by network analysis in panic disorder.

BACKGROUND: It has been suggested that gender differences in anxiety and depressive symptoms characterize panic disorder (PD) in terms of vulnerability to stressful life events, anxiety, depressive symptom patterns, and brain structure. However, few studies have investigated the gender differences in PD using a network approach. METHODS: This study included 619 participants with PD (313 men). The Panic Disorder Severity Scale, Albany Panic and Phobia Questionnaire, and Beck Depression Inventory-II were used to evaluate symptomatology. To investigate the PD-related white matter (WM) neural cor
