Ménière's disease is an inner ear disorder manifesting as attacks of vertigo, hearing loss, tinnitus, and aural fullness. Successful management includes an accurate diagnosis, ruling out other causes of vertigo, salt restrictions, and use of diuretics.

The motion sickness syndrome constitutes varying degrees of subjective motion intolerance and three objective findings: hyperactive VOR (79%), hip sway strategy (60%), and positional nystagmus (42%). It is present in subjects who have a strong history of motion sickness. Vestibular rehabilitation appears to help control symptoms. The study also suggests an inheritance pattern, but a structured pedigree could not be constructed. Prospective studies are warranted to further establish the patterns of the motion sickness syndrome.

The cervico-ocular (COR) and active and passive vestibulo-ocular reflexes (VOR) were measured in seven patients with spasmodic torticollis (ST) and six normal controls. The COR was found to be weak or absent in both groups. The VOR gain was similar in the two groups but five patients had a significant asymmetry of the response. There was no evidence of abnormal cervico-vestibular interaction during active head rotation. The study suggests that the VOR asymmetry frequently found in ST cannot be explained on the basis of an abnormal cervical input.

We reviewed the clinical and electronystagmographic findings of 84 patients who presented to our neuro-otology clinic with vertigo of presumed cerebrovascular origin. There was a surprisingly high incidence of isolated episodes of vertigo (abrupt in onset, lasting minutes). In some patients these episodes preceded other symptoms of vertebrobasilar insufficiency or infarction by months. It contains six fields representing the six main positions of the test. In each field the intensity and the duration of the positional nystagmus are given by the coordinates of the maximal frequency as abscissa and of the duration as ordinate. The direction of the nystagmus is arrowed by the direction of the resulting pointer. The survey on all the six fields informs about the pertaining nystagmus direction, its intensity and positional type. The positiogram enhances a quick evaluation of the positional test and facilitates follow-up studies.

OBJECTIVE: Auditory neuropathy (AN) is a unique pattern of hearing loss with preservation of hair cell function. The condition is characterized by the presence of otoacoustic emissions (OAE) or cochlear microphonic (CM) responses with severe abnormalities of the auditory brainstem response (ABR). OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study is to evaluate vestibular functions with video head impulse test (VHIT) and to understand the value of VHIT in differential diagnosis in patients with vestibular migraine (VM) during dizziness attack.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Two groups were enrolled in this study. The first consisted of 84 vestibular migraine patients, and second group of 74 healthy subjects. The state of the vestibular system was evaluated in 30 postpartum women following gestosis and 25 controls after uncomplicated pregnancy.
