To examine the mechanism by which aluminiofluoride, a tightly binding analogue of inorganic phosphate, inhibits force in single, chemically skinned fibres from rabbit psoas muscle, we measured the Ca(2+)-dependence of the kinetics of inhibitor dissociation and the kinetics of actomyosin interactions when aluminiofluoride was bound to the crossbridges. The relation between stiffness and the speed of stretch during small amplitude ramp stretches (< 5 nm per h.s.) was used to characterize the kinetic properties of crossbridges attached to actin; sarcomere length was assessed with HeNe laser diffr

Humans are constantly exposed to aluminum (Al), an environmental toxicant, and its accumulation in the glomerular could lead to acute kidney disease. Biologically synthesized gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) have been employed in the management of kidney disorders. This study assessed the modulatory effect of AuNPs mediated by Hibiscus sabdariffa (HS) on aluminum chloride (AlCl3)-induced nephrotoxicity in rats. Experimental rats were randomly distributed into six groups of seven animals each. Aluminum chloride (100 mg/kg bw) was orally given to the rats for 42 days to induce nephrotoxicity. Treatmen

Clinical data suggest the role of L-DOPA in Alzheimer's Disease (AD) though its mechanism of action in AD is not clear. Previous results suggest that L-DOPA might have a complex mixture of pro- and antioxidant effects contributing to tissue damage due to oxidative stress. Furthermore, entacapone, a COMT inhibitor, is known to retain greater levodopa levels in plasma during coadministration. Hence, the role of L-DOPA + entacapone in aluminum induced oxidative stress in the rat brain was evaluated. Sprague Dawley rats (n = 6/group) were treated with either the vehicle, aluminum, L-DOPA + entacap

A study on the phase behavior and structure of the alkanolamine salts of the dimeric amphiphile 3,4-bis-dodecyloxycarbonyl-hexanedioic acid (GS-H) is presented for the first time. Data are compared to those of the corresponding monomeric surfactant (lauric acid, LA). The alkanolamine salts of GS-H show very low Krafft points (<0 degrees C) and form hexagonal liquid crystals at concentrations lower than its monomeric counterpart, indicating that aggregation is favored for dimeric surfactants. The minimum concentration for liquid crystal formation increases for bulky alkanolamines with a structu

This study deals with the adsorption of Cr(VI) from synthetic and industrial wastewater, produced by a sewage plant. The activated carbons were prepared from a lignocellulosic raw material by thermal treatment at 450 and 650 degrees C in the presence of acid (AlCl(3), HCl, H(3)PO(4) and H(2)SO(4)) and base (NaOH) agents. To optimize the adsorption of Cr(VI), the chemical modifications caused by each activating agent (related to the capability of Cr(VI) removal), and the optimal experimental conditions of the pH, Cr(VI) concentration, adsorbent dose and residence time, were studied. Thus, treat

BACKGROUND: Materials used for vital pulp therapy should support the natural healing and regeneration of the dental pulp. Ideally, these materials should be biocompatible, bioactive, non-toxic, and noncarcinogenic. Although numerous medicaments are currently available on the market, none fully meet all the criteria required for an ideal material. In recent years, calcium silicate-based materials, known for their bioactivity and biocompatibility, have gained widespread use in dental practice.
OBJECTIVES: This in vivo study investigated the tissue response and biological characteristics of mine

Endodontic medicine, which addresses the bidirectional relationship between endodontic infections and systemic diseases, has gained prominence in the field of endodontics. There is much evidence showing that while systemic disease may influence the pathogenesis of endodontic infection, endodontic infection can also cause systemic alterations. These alterations include more severe bone resorption and inflammation in the periapical area as well as enhanced systemic disease symptoms. Similarly, many reports have described the impact of systemic diseases on the tissue responses to dental materials

The purpose of this study was to report the success rate of using mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) and zinc oxide eugenol (ZOE) as vital pulp therapy agents in immature permanent teeth with carious or traumatic pulp exposure. Subjects were children with permanent teeth requiring pulpotomy (apexogenesis) and without systemic diseases. Both ZOE and MTA treatments as pulpotomy agents showed clinical and radiographic success in immature permanent teeth. Although MTA was more successful, it is more expensive, and dentin bridges may develop over canal orifices, complicating future root canal therapy
