Multidisciplinary approach to an asymmetric traumatic occlusion: a case report.

The case of a 47-year-old female patient with an asymmetric traumatic occlusion, great alveolar destruction in the mandibular left central incisor, gingival recession with attachment loss and lack o fkeratinized tissue more accentuated in the crossbite teeth is described. This situation was caused by the traumatic position of the teeth, aggravated by a forced asymmetric anterior position of the mandible and aggravated by mandibular movements. After the extraction of the left central mandibular incisor, keratinized tissue reconstruction and alveolar bone regeneration were performed to obtain en

Radiographic evaluation of narrow-diameter implants from different systems for two years.

BACKGROUND: Narrow-diameter implants (NDIs) offer a viable alternative to bone augmentation in sites with limited alveolar ridge width. This study aimed to retrospectively evaluate the radiographic marginal bone loss (MBL) and survival rate of NDIs from three different systems after 2 years of functional loading. METHODS: In this retrospective study, a total of 109 NDIs from three brands (30 Straumann®, 38 Thommen, and 41 Osstem) in 78 patients were evaluated. Patient records from 2013 to 2023 were screened. Mesial and distal MBL were measured on periapical radiographs at implant loading and

Computerized tomographic evaluation of symphyseal donor sites used in the reconstruction of the posterior maxilla: a case report of 2 patients.

Autogenous bone grafts are commonly used for reconstruction of the deficient maxillary alveolar ridge. Mandibular ramus, symphysis, extraction sites, and retromolar sites are the most common sources for harvesting autogenous bone grafts from intraoral regions. Several authors have used computerized tomography (CT) to evaluate the dimensional change of bone graft, but there are limited reports evaluating donor sites for autogenous bone. In this report, 2 patients were treated with autogenous bone graft from the mandibular symphysis. Postoperative CT scans were used to evaluate the radiographic

Two different clinical indications using hydraulic sinus condensing (HSC) technique: ten years follow-up.

The use of hydraulic force to condense bone particulate into the maxillary sinus is a predictable and less invasive method of site preparation for many, but not all, dental implant candidates. It is our approach in the primary indication for HSC--patients with advanced periodontitis in whom insufficient cortical bone at the alveolar ridge of the posterior maxilla stands as a detriment to effective implantation. A second indication for HSC accounts for those patients who suffer blood disorders or have sensitivities to certain medications, such as vasoconstrictors, and in whom it is crucial to m

Mesenchymal stem cells and inorganic bovine bone mineral in sinus augmentation: comparison with augmentation by autologous bone in adult sheep.

Our aim was to compare the osteogenic potential of mononuclear cells harvested from the iliac crest combined with bovine bone mineral (BBM) (experimental group) with that of autogenous cancellous bone alone (control group). We studied bilateral augmentations of the sinus floor in 6 adult sheep. BBM and mononuclear cells (MNC) were mixed and placed into one side and autogenous bone in the other side. Animals were killed after 8 and 16 weeks. Sites of augmentation were analysed radiographically and histologically. The mean (SD) augmentation volume was 3.0 (1.0) cm(3) and 2.7 (0.3) cm(3) after 8

A combination of three minimally invasive surgical procedures for implant placement in the posterior maxilla with insufficient bone quantity.

We describe a combination of 3 surgical procedures for implant placement in the posterior maxilla with insufficient bone quantity and quality. In these situations, we have performed 3 minimally invasive, safe, and reliable surgical procedures: buccal bone graft with bone harvested from the mandibular molar region, submucous vestibuloplasty using artificial dermis, and bone-added osteotome sinus floor elevation under endoscopic control. These modified procedures can be performed in the office setting under outpatient local anesthesia and may minimize patient discomfort and reduce postoperative

Histomorphometric comparison of a biphasic bone ceramic to anorganic bovine bone for sinus augmentation: 6- to 8-month postsurgical assessment of vital bone formation. A pilot study.

This blinded, randomized, controlled pilot investigation is the first to histomorphometrically compare vital bone formation following bilateral sinus grafting with a biphasic calcium phosphate (BCP) (Straumann Bone Ceramic) to an anorganic bovine bone matrix (ABBM) (Bio-Oss) 6 to 8 months following graft placement. Twelve patients were selected. Following elevation of the lateral sinus walls, one material was placed in the right sinus and the other material was placed in the left sinus, as determined by randomization. Six to 8 months after grafting (with the same time frame used for each patie

Biocompatibility and manageability of a new fixable bone graft for the treatment of localized bone defects: preliminary study in a dog model.

The present investigation was performed to compare the biocompatibility, safety, and manageability of a newly developed bone block and a deproteinized bovine bone block (Bio-Oss) for the treatment of localized bone defects in a dog model. Two male beagle dogs were used for this study. The mandibular premolars were extracted and two saddle-type defects were created bilaterally in the edentulous area. The defects were filled according to a randomized design with Bio-Oss bone block or with an equine hydroxyapatite plus collagen bone block (eHAC). Most control and test sites developed dehiscences

A new imaging modality for intraoperative evaluation of sinus floor augmentation.

The aim of this report was to demonstrate the practicability of a new imaging modality, which allows three-dimensional intraoperative imaging and verification of bone-graft position, and to compare it to the currently available imaging systems. The ARCADIS Orbic 3D, a C-arm-based cone-beam computed tomography scanner developed for intraoperative imaging, was used to examine a previously augmented sinus floor, in order to verify the height and width of the augmentation and to determine whether any of the autogenous and synthetic bone-substitute mixture had penetrated the sinus membrane. Anteroinferior distraction of the atrophic subtotal maxillary alveolus for implant placement: a case report.

Most reports on alveolar distraction have been related to vertical distraction in the mandible and the maxilla. There have been few reports on horizontal or oblique alveolar distraction. A case of an atrophic subtotal maxillary alveolus distracted 10 mm anteriorly and 5 mm vertically, followed by the placement of 9 implants, is presented. A healthy, 55-year-old woman presented with a chief complaint of mobility of all maxillary teeth. All remaining 11 teeth except the maxillary left second molar were diagnosed as being involved with advanced marginal periodontitis, and were considered hopeless
