The effects of some tremor-producing and antitremor agents on the enzymes sequentially metabolizing ethanol and acetaldehyde in addition to biogenic-amine-derived aldehyde intermediates were studied in mouse liver preparations. Aldehyde but not alcohol dehydrogenase was differentially stimulated by the compounds studied in vitro. This effect was confined to the mitochondrial enzyme and was isoenzyme-dependent. We report on the first positron emission tomographic study of dopamine receptor binding in Rett syndrome. The patient is a 25 year old Austrian woman diagnosed at age 2 and followed since then by Rett. A computed axial tomogram (CT scan) showed cortical atrophy, and enlarged ventricles but normal structure of the caudate/putamen. A sensitive, selective, pre-column derivatization method was used with high-performance liquid chromatography to measure norepinephrine, dopamine and serotonin in plasma from normal and malignant hyperthermic (MH) pigs. The development of an environmentally benign protocol for the site-selective γ-C(sp3)-H acylation of aliphatic amines is of significant interest given their utility in accessing a diverse collection of γ-aminoketones prevalent in biologically active compounds. Herein, we report a visible-light-driven γ-C(sp3)-H acylation of aliphatic amines enabled by N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) organocatalysis. This work demonstrates the generation of an aryl radical via single-electron transfer from the enolate form of an electron-rich Breslow intermediate to an aryl iodide under visible-light irradiation.
