Outlined in the article are main principles of organ-preserving and sparing treatment of aged female patients with carcinoma of the body of the womb and vulva. Indications are determined for surgical management of the above medical problem in elderly women. Revelant treatment options are described.

Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) is a major cause of blindness in babies. To explore the incidence, treatment and short-term outcome of the disease in Romania, a small scale study on 24 preterm infants with gestational age < 32 weeks and birthweight < 1500 g was undertaken. Gestational age was < 28 weeks in 66.6% and birthweight was < 1000 g in 70.8% of the children. A total of 50 infants of less than 2000 gm birth weight were screened for retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) by binocular indirect ophthalmoscopy. The incidence of ROP was found in 19 patients (38%). Of these, 8 patients (16 eyes) had threshold disease. Significantly, occurrence of threshold ROP was seen in both 1600 gm birth weight in one infant and in the absence of oxygen administration in 2 infants. The cyclodestructive effects of cyclocryotherapy and of the neodymium:yttrium aluminum garnet (Nd:YAG) and diode laser transscleral cyclophotocoagulation were investigated in phakic and pseudophakic cadaver eyes using a modified Miyake posterior-view technique and light microscopy. This is a preliminary report of Eales' disease study (EDS). Compilation of two years data shows that combined xenon are photocoagulation and peripheral cryotherapy has beneficial effects in treatment of Eales' disease with grade II and grade III retinopathy. In very advanced stage of the disease (grade IV retinopathy) the treatment has no beneficial effects and untreated also it leads to vitreous haemorrhage and traction retinal detachment. Mooren's ulcer has not yet been treated successfully with drugs. Cautery, cryocoagulation, surgical diathermy, lamellar or perforating keratoplasty, and conjunctivoplasty usually have no or only little success. We have been able to cure our last five cases of Mooren's ulcer by an extensive and deep thermocoagulation both of the ulcer, the swollen corneal margins and the bordering conjunctiva. Then followed dilatation of the conjunctival vessels with Dionine and Priscol ointments.
