INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Simple hepatic cysts are benign and usually asymptomatic; however, they can rarely develop serious complications, such as hepatoduodenal fistula, due to infection, cyst size, or mechanical pressure.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 68-year-old male presented with fever, hematochezia, and severe right upper quadrant pain. Imaging revealed a 10 × 12 cm segment V-VII hepatic cyst with an air-fluid level, and endoscopy showed a fistulous opening in the second duodenum adjacent to a necrotic diverticulum. After stabilization, laparotomy confirmed a hepatoduodenal fistula; a 2 cm o

Cysts of the kidney usually originate from the renal parenchyma after tubule obstruction; rarely pyelocalyceal cysts occur, originating from transitional urothelium. Neoplasia is a rare but possible complication. A 45-year-old man was found to have a cyst related to the right kidney. Computed tomography demonstrated minimal calcification in the wall (Bosniak II). Symptom-relieving percutaneous drainage yielded clear fluid; resultant cytology was negative. After rapid reaccumulation, laparoscopic deroofing was performed. No communication within the renal pelvis was detected however histology re

Accurate diagnosis of Pancreatic cysts (PC) is key in the management. The knowledge of indications for surgery, the role of endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration, cyst fluid analysis, imaging, and surveillance of PC are all important in the diagnosis and management of PC. Currently, there are many guidelines for the management of PC. The optimal use of these guidelines with a patient-centered approach helps diagnose early cancer and prevent the spread of cancer.

REASONS FOR PERFORMING STUDY: The spectrum of clinical presentation, methods of diagnosis, management and prognosis in cases of sinunasal cysts (SNCs) requires more extensive study. Despite the extensive nature of SNCs, the prognosis for afflicted horses appears to have improved since earlier studies were conducted.
OBJECTIVES: To evaluate prognosis and cosmetic outcome of surgical ablation in 52 cases of SNCs.
METHODS: Fifty-two case records (1982-2005) of horses affected with SNCs were retrieved from the archives. Subject details, clinical signs, diagnostic techniques, surgical management

Toxoplasma gondii is a zoonotic parasite can be seen in all the vital organ; in the acute phase, it can be found in the blood, cerebrospinal fluid, semen, tears, saliva, urine, and in almost all body fluids. Transplasental infection can lead to fetal damage and miscarriage. Its last hosts are felines and intermediate hosts are all mammals, including humans. People infected by the ingestion of meat containing cysts in undercooked or raw, are thrown oocysts with cat felines By taking in water and food, from mother to fetus transplacental way, the infected organ transplantation, blood transfusion

Cystic masses of the mediastinum are well-marginated round lesions that contain fluid and are lined with epithelium. Major cystic masses include congenital benign cysts (ie, bronchogenic, esophageal duplication, neurenteric, pericardial, and thymic cysts), meningocele, mature cystic teratoma, and lymphangioma. Many tumors (eg, thymomas, Hodgkin disease, germ cell tumors, mediastinal carcinomas, metastases to lymph nodes, nerve root tumors) can undergo cystic degeneration-especially after radiation therapy or chemotherapy-and demonstrate mixed solid and cystic elements at computed tomography (C

Intraventricular neurocysticercosis is associated with more severe complications and a worse overall outcome.1,2 Fourth ventricle neurocysticercosis (FVNCC) often presents with cerebrospinal fluid obstruction and hydrocephalus by means of direct mechanical occlusion of ventricular outlets by the cysts or due to an ependymal inflammatory response. Unfortunately, there is little consensus on the optimal management for FVNCC. If possible, surgical removal of cysticerci rather than medical therapy and/or shunt surgery is recommended.3 Endoscopic removal of cysts is described to be an effective tre

INTRODUCTION: Retroperitoneal mucinous cystic neoplasms are uncommon, and little is known about the etiology of the disease. Malignant forms of these are extremely rare. Here, we report a case of primary retroperitoneal mucinous cystadenocarcinoma (PRMC), which demonstrated unexpectedly aggressive progression despite finding only a limited area of adenocarcinoma.
PRESENTATION OF CASE: A 62-year-old woman with a complaint of abdominal discomfort was admitted to the hospital. Abdominal CT and MRI showed multiple large retroperitoneal cysts dislocating the right kidney nearly to the center of th

CASE DESCRIPTION: A 5-month-old neutered male Golden Retriever was evaluated because of moderate stridor, exercise intolerance, and dyspnea. The dog had been neutered 3 weeks previously, and the referring veterinarian identified a large fluid-filled swelling on the left lateral aspect of the larynx during anesthetic intubation for that surgery. The referring veterinarian drained fluid from the mass by use of needle centesis via the oral cavity, which resulted in temporary improvement in clinical signs; however, the clinical signs returned soon thereafter.
CLINICAL FINDINGS: A large, soft, sph

A giant cystic lesion of the left upper abdomen associated with a smaller ovarian cyst in a young female patient is reported. Laboratory data revealed elevated serum levels of carbohydrate antigen 19-9 (CA 19-9), carcino-embryonic antigen (CEA), cancer antigens 50 and 125, and tissue polypeptide antigen. In contrast, the serum levels of interleukin 10, a cytokine involved in modulating immune responses and produced by many cancer histotypes, were normal. Since ovarian cancer or cystic adenocarcinoma of the tail of the pancreas were not ruled out, the patient underwent laparotomy. After splenec

True cysts of the spleen are rare. In a few cases, high serum levels of carbohydrate antigen (CA) 19-9 and carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) have been reported. It has been suggested that they are produced by inner epithelium of the cyst. In such instances, cyst resection or splenectomy is indicated to rule out malignant lesions and to remove cancer antigen-producing epithelium. Furthermore, a high serum level of interleukin (IL)-10, an immunosuppressive cytokine, has been described in many neoplastic diseases, suggesting it as a potential new diagnostic method. Giant cystic lesion of the left up

We present a patient with a distinctive lesion of the skull base, which, at imaging, showed expansile destruction of the sphenoid bone, hemorrhage with fluid-fluid levels, and contrast enhancement of a solid portion. These features ordinarily suggest either giant cell tumor or aneurysmal bone cyst; however, pathologic examination confirmed instead a rare variant of osteosarcoma of the telangiectatic type. Although imaging findings can indicate any of these possibilities, biopsy is an essential step in arriving at the diagnosis.

BACKGROUND: Colloid cysts represent 0.5%-1% of intracranial tumors and most commonly occur in the third ventricle near the Monro foramen. Although benign, if the lesion obstructs the foramen abruptly, sudden death may ensue. Evolution of these cysts is poorly understood. Spontaneous regression has been reported in only 2 other cases. Management of such cysts depends on whether the cyst continues to grow, its location, and clinical presentation. Incidental asymptomatic colloid cysts are typically followed with neuroimaging surveillance.
CASE DESCRIPTION: We present a case of an incidental thir

Neuroepithelial cysts are lesions of the central nervous system that have previously been reported in cerebral parenchyma, in the spinal cord, and within the ventricles in association with the choroid plexus. We describe 2 cases of neuroepithelial cysts of the middle ear. One was diagnosed after surgery for a retraction pocket and chronic otitis media complicated by an intraoperative cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leak. The other produced bilateral spontaneous CSF otorrhea and mimicked the presentation of arachnoid granulations. Both cases were verified with immunohistochemical stains. Neuroepithel

Percutaneous drainage under ultrasonographic guidance was carried out on 12 patients with liver cysts and 1 with an abdominal cyst. In 8 the cyst was proved to be of hydatid origin by means of direct detection of parasites in the aspirated fluid. In these individuals a 95% ethanol solution was subsequently introduced into the cystic cavity and slowly removed over 30 min. Direct observation, staining for viability assessment, and in vitro isolation attempts were done both before and after the injection of the alcoholic solution, thus making possible the immediate evaluation of the protoscolicid

Magnetic resonance (MR) imaging of 13 proved cases of syringomyelia or hydromyelia and one case of myelomalacia is described. Most intramedullary cysts were evident on sagittal partial saturation recovery (PSR) images. One cyst containing viscous fluid was not demonstrated on PSR images, but was suggested on a sagittal spin echo image. The case of myelomalacia was indistinguishable from a syrinx on axial PSR and spin echo images. Not all cases of syringomyelia and hydromyelia had the typical MR appearance previously described in the literature. Atypical cysts, spinal cord degeneration, and tum

A female neonate, with neurological signs and leucocytosis in sterile spinal fluid, was found to have anomalies of the upper thoracic vertebral bodies with a bony spur indicating diastematomyelia. The spur was removed, but symptoms recurred. Necropsy at the age of 5 months revealed an intraspinal gastroenterogenous cyst containing a perforated peptic ulcer. Analysis of eight previous reports of intraspinal enterogenous cysts, shows that, like prevertebral enterogenous cysts, they are frequently combined with defects in the vertebral bodies. This association suggests development from an embryon

A 76-year-old man presented with right eyelid swelling and deteriorated vision. Examination revealed anterior uveitis with hypopyon and a visual acuity of 20/2,000 in the right eye, with no abnormalities in the left. Computed tomography revealed enlargement of the right maxillary sinus and internal fluid accumulation, suggesting a postoperative maxillary cyst (POMC). Nasal endoscopic surgery drained the pus by opening the lower wall of the maxillary cyst. Following the procedure, intraocular inflammation resolved, and visual acuity in the right eye improved to 24/20. This is the first reported
