Seven consecutive autologous bone marrow transplants were performed in children with neuroblastoma with very good partial remission (VGPR). A combination of cyclophosphamide, escalating doses of VP-16-213, continuous infusion vincristine, and total body irradiation followed by infusion with unpurged bone marrow was used. The dose-limiting toxicity in this regimen was mucositis which occurred when the total dose of VP-16-213 was 2,400 mg/m2. The response rate to this regimen was 4/7 (-CR 48+, 21+, 21+, 35+ mo) 3/7 had a CP/PR post transplant with progressive disease between 1 and 4 months later

RATIONALE: Thymomas are associated with numerous autoimmune disorders, such as myasthenia gravis (MG), pure red cell aplasia (PRCA), and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Lichen planus (LP) is a relatively common papulosquamous disorder that is characterized by pruritic, polygonal papules in a characteristic distribution. We present a case of a 71-year-old man with erythroderma, who was ultimately diagnosed with severe, generalized LP. Treatment of severe LP is challenging, and there are few, robust, clinical trials in the literature to guide the selection of appropriate treatment. We discuss the treatment options for generalized LP and the evidence in support of these agents.

This article refers to papulosquamous diseases that are seen in the elderly. Many of these diseases are complex to diagnose due to the fact that they are difficult to identify, because they may resemble a similar disorder, which can be misleading. The problem that is frequently seen with these diseases is that they are commonly misdiagnosed. In this article the authors include information that will help with identifying these diseases. The authors also provide important laboratory exams that can be performed and can help guide diagnosis, as well as differential diagnosis and treatment options.

We treated childhood psoriasis with methotrexate (MTX) in seven children (4 boys, 3 girls) over 7.5 years. Their ages and duration of disease varied from 3.5 to 16 years (mean 12.14 yrs) and 4.8 months to 5 years (mean 2.2 yrs), respectively.
