Cannabidiol in Skin Health: A Comprehensive Review of Topical Applications in Dermatology and Cosmetic Science.

Cannabidiol (CBD), a non-psychoactive phytocannabinoid derived from Cannabis sativa L., has emerged as a promising multifunctional agent in dermatology and cosmetic science. The review provides an updated synthesis of CBD's topical therapeutic potential, challenges, and evolving regulatory frameworks. CBD exhibits diverse biological effects, including anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antibacterial, analgesic, lipostatic, antiproliferative, moisturising, and anti-ageing properties through interactions with the skin's endocannabinoid system (ECS), modulating CB1, CB2, TRPV channels, and PPARs. We analyzed the features and the incidence of dermatological issues emerged during the hospitalization due to COVID-19 and absent before. METHODS: All the SARS-CoV-2 positive patients hospitalized in Celio Military Hospital - COVID hub no-intensive care wards from

Distribution of Malassezia Species in Patients with Different Dermatological Disorders and Healthy Individuals.

There are differences with respect to the commonly isolated Malassezia species, not only between healthy individuals and the patients with various skin diseases, but also between different countries. We investigated the species composition of Malassezia microflora on the skin of patients with Malassezia-associated diseases and of healthy subjects (HS). Two hundred and fifty skin scrapings from patients with pityriasis versicolor (PV), seborrheic dermatitis (SD), atopic dermatitis (AD), psoriasis (PS), and healthy subjects (HS), fifty each, were inoculated into Sabouraud dextrose agar and into

Comprehensive assessment of the efficacy and safety of a clay mask in oily and acne skin.

BACKGROUND: Oily skin, characterized by excessive sebum production, can lead to acne and have psychosocial impacts due to changes in appearance. Recent research has shown interest in treatments for oil control, with kaolin and bentonite emerging as promising options. Despite their potential, comprehensive studies on these ingredients are still in the nascent stages. AIM: This study aimed to assess the efficacy of a clay mask (La Roche-Posay Effaclar Sebo-Controlling Mask) in reducing skin oiliness and acne, and its safety for use. METHODS: In this study, 75 adults with oily or combination sk

[Experimental evaluation of anti-seborrheic substances].

The effects of different drugs on the sebaceous gland is described by the use of an animal model. A castrated rat Wistar was made hyperseborrheic with implant of testosterone. On this model, graduated by a different anti androgen (acetate of cyproterone), anti-seborrheic effect is measured, bound or not the antiandrogenic effect of retinoids, cimetidine, spironolactone and, minoxidil. Retinoids reduced the surface of sebaceous glands but did not express an anti-androgenic effect. Cimetidine and spironolactone presented the same action. Minoxidil had no effect on this model.

Seborrheic keratosis with possible central regression.

We describe a case of suspected superficial-type basal cell epithelioma. However, it showed the histologic features of pigmented seborrheic keratosis and, on the basis of the clinical and histologic findings and the developmental course, was presumed to have undergone central regression. Mononuclear cell inflammation was considered to be involved in the regression.

The effect of ketoconazole on sebum secretion in patients suffering from acne and seborrhoea.

Ketoconazole, an imidazolic antimycotic derivative, has proved to have an antiandrogenous effect, which may be observed to inhibit the adrenal and gonadal steroid synthesis. The authors wished to verify this effect of the drug in men and women suffering from acne and seborrhoea, conditions believed to indicate a heightened androgenous effect in the sebaceous gland. They aimed to do this by studying the cutaneous sebum, which is considered a reliable indirect indicator of androgenous activity. They found a statistically significant decrease in the rate of sebum production in all patients admini

Alopecia areata incognita: a hypothesis.

To explain why in alopecia areata the hair falls out in a particular area the hypothesis is proposed that the area occurs as a stochastic event only in those subjects who, in a restricted zone of their scalp, happen to have a group of hairs that are simultaneously in the early anagen VI subphase of the hair cycle. Once this point has been accepted, a number of conclusions may be drawn. Especially important is the inference that only people with low percentages of telogen hairs are likely to exhibit areas, whereas those with androgenetic alopecia, when affected by alopecia areata, preferentiall
