Kidney Health for All: Bridging the Gap in Kidney Health Education and Literacy.

The high burden of kidney disease, global disparities in kidney care, and poor outcomes of kidney failure bring a concomitant growing burden to persons affected, their families, and carers, and the community at large. Health literacy is the degree to which persons and organizations have or equitably enable individuals to have the ability to find, understand, and use information and services to make informed health-related decisions and actions for themselves and others. Rather than viewing health literacy as a patient deficit, improving health literacy largely rests with health care providers

An m-Health system for education and motivation in cardiac rehabilitation: the experience of HeartCycle guided exercise.

Introduction Home-based programmes for cardiac rehabilitation play a key role in the recovery of patients with coronary artery disease. However, their necessary educational and motivational components have been rarely implemented with the help of modern mobile technologies. We developed a mobile health system designed for motivating patients to adhere to their rehabilitation programme by providing exercise monitoring, guidance, motivational feedback, and educational content. Methods Our multi-disciplinary approach is based on mapping "desired behaviours" into specific system's specifications,

Multi-site videoconferencing for home-based education of older people with chronic conditions: the Telehealth Literacy Project.

We examined the acceptability of multi-site videoconferencing as a method of providing group education to older people in their homes. There were 9 groups comprising 52 participants (mean age 73 years) with an average of four chronic conditions. Tablet computers or PCs were installed in participant's homes and connected to the Internet by the National Broadband Network (high-speed broad band network) or by the 4G wireless network. A health literacy and self-management programme was delivered by videoconference for 5 weeks. Participants were able to view and interact with all group members and

Translating the research in insulin injection technique: implications for practice.

PURPOSE: Glucose variability leading to suboptimal glycemic control is common among people using injection therapies. Advanced technology and new studies have identified important issues related to injection technique: needle length and gauge, body mass index, skin and subcutaneous tissue thickness, adequate resuspension of cloudy insulins, leakage, choice of injection site and rotation, pinching a skinfold, and lipohypertrophy. All these issues can affect pain and bruising, insulin absorption, and blood glucose levels. The purpose of this article is to review current and past research regardi

Impact of Covid-19 on consumer behavior: Will the old habits return or die?

The COVID-19 pandemic and the lockdown and social distancing mandates have disrupted the consumer habits of buying as well as shopping. Consumers are learning to improvise and learn new habits. For example, consumers cannot go to the store, so the store comes to home. While consumers go back to old habits, it is likely that they will be modified by new regulations and procedures in the way consumers shop and buy products and services. New habits will also emerge by technology advances, changing demographics and innovative ways consumers have learned to cope with blurring the work, leisure, and

Online Sexual Solicitation of Children and Adolescents.

Technological advances have exploded in the new millennium. The Internet provides many opportunities to enrich the lives of youth by providing greater access to learning opportunities, valuable resources, and positive social interactions with peers. However, the Internet is a relatively new and unregulated entity that can also place children and adolescents at risk for a variety of negative and potentially dangerous exposures. One such risk is online sexual solicitations and interactions with older adolescents, peers, and adults. This continuing education article will explore online sexual sol

Computed tomography dose optimization.

Use of computed tomography (CT) as a medical diagnostic imaging tool has increased in recent decades because of its technical advances in data acquisition speed and image reconstruction technology. The increased reliance on CT was accompanied by increased patient exposure to ionizing radiation, however, and concerns among radiologic professionals and the public regarding CT dose resulted in increasing attention to dose reduction. Research and education efforts have addressed many of these concerns, and radiologic technologists play a critical role in optimizing image quality and radiation dose

Childhood obesity in changing food systems: mediterranean diet, socioeconomic inequalities and AI-driven personalized nutrition - the case of Italy.

Childhood obesity is a major global public health challenge resulting from the interaction between changing food systems, dietary behaviors, and social inequalities. This Perspective argues that childhood obesity should be addressed through an integrated systems-based framework that links food environments, socioeconomic determinants, and emerging digital health technologies. Across Europe, children's dietary patterns have shifted toward increased consumption of ultra-processed foods and energy-dense products, alongside low adherence to healthy dietary guidelines. These trends disproportionate

Recommendations to advance digital health equity: a systematic review of qualitative studies.

The World Health Organisation advocates Digital Health Technologies (DHTs) for advancing population health, yet concerns about inequitable outcomes persist. Differences in access and use of DHTs across different demographic groups can contribute to inequities. Academics and policy makers have acknowledged this issue and called for inclusive digital health strategies. This systematic review synthesizes literature on these strategies and assesses facilitators and barriers to their implementation. We searched four large databases for qualitative studies using terms relevant to digital technology,

[Media Abstinence is the Onset of Media Literacy].

In the Corona Pandemic, the use of digital media in schools and kindergartens is presented as having no alternative. The developmental conditions of children are changing rapidly. However, the developmental steps and tasks remain the same. Young children in particular need diverse and comprehensive sensory experiences and supportive and protective relationships. Early consumption of digital screen media has a negative impact on child development and is reflected, for example, in language development delays, attention problems, lack of exercise, obesity and less time for free play. Early digitiz
