Thirty-two children aged three months to 17 years (median six years) were diagnosed with soft-tissue sarcoma of the head and neck and treated at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania from 1971 to 1981. Infection of mice with lactic dehydrogenase virus (LDV) causes a lifelong chronic infection which is followed by alterations in immune responses during the acute phase of the infection. LDV was found to impair many functions of the reticuloendothelial system and to suppress macrophage-dependent immune responses. We are studying the development and mode of action of suppressor T cells induced by ultraviolet (UV) radiation, which prevent the rejection of syngeneic UV-induced tumors. Suppressor cells were induced in C3H mice by exposure to FS40 sunlamps for 1 hr, three times per week for 3 months. Neither thymectomy nor splenectomy prior to UV irradiation prevented the development of these suppressor T cells in other lymphoid tissues. Gorlin-Goltz syndrome (GGS) among Indians is rarely reported. Since 1960, only 38 cases having 48 patients of Gorlin-Goltz syndrome have been identified in the Indian population.
