OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the curative effects of AO clavicular hook plate in the treatment of dislocation of acromioclavicular joint and fracture of distal clavicle.
METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed the clinical data of 39 patients with acromioclavicular joint dislocation or distal clavicle fractures treated with clavicular hook plate: 16 suffered from dislocation of acromioclaviculr joint, 18 suffered from far end collarbone fractures, and 5 patients had both symptoms.
RESULTS: The 39 patients were followed up for 12 months averagely. All patients got good reduction and fixation. The acro

A dislocation of the shoulder joint is rare in children with an open physis. The fractures associated with an anterior dislocation generally reported in the literature have been Hill-Sachs lesions, avulsions of the greater tuberosity and glenoid fractures. We present a case of a previously unreported shearing osteochondral fracture, which is distinct from a classic Hill-Sachs lesion of the humeral head, in 12-year-old boy. The patient suffered a traumatic anterior shoulder dislocation with a spontaneous reduction along with this associated fracture. The fracture subsequently healed with no fur

A 52 year-old woman suffered bilateral femoral shaft fractures when she was 5 years old and they were treated surgically. She had been able to walk without pain and giving way throughout her young and adult life, however, when she came to us with a 1-year history of the right knee pain, she could walk only 10 m continuously. The right knee revealed valgus deformity with complete lateral patellar dislocation. The femoro-tibial angle was 154 degrees and arthritic change was seen in the femorotibial joint. Surfaces of both the patella and the femur were degraded. Twenty-two degrees of rotational

We present a case of irreducible palmar dislocation of the proximal interphalangeal joint of the little finger caused by entrapment of a fracture fragment attached to the collateral ligament. The bony fragment was trapped between the radial condyle of the proximal phalanx and the volar plate. Reduction was easily accomplished by hooking out the fragment.

Traumatic aortic valve rupture with resultant aortic insufficiency is a rare complication of blunt trauma. Here reported is a case with a posterior fracture-dislocation of the hip (Pipkin type-IV) and an undisplaced sternum fracture who developed hemodynamic instability in the clinical follow-up and was diagnosed having a traumatic aortic valve rupture using echocardiography. He first was treated with a biological valve replacement. Two weeks later a total hip arthroplasty combined with the osteosynthesis of the posterior wall of the acetabulum was performed. Sternum fracture healed conservati

Twenty cases with fracture-dislocation of the cervical spine were treated by U-shaped pin fixation. The U-shaped pin made of Steiman pin was used to hold sublaminar fixation of two segments above and below the vertebra of fracture. When atlas or axis was injured, a pair of small holes were drilled on the occipitale. The closed end of the U-Shaped pin was wired through the holes. Early postoperative ambulation was allowed without external fixation. 18 cases were followed up for 8-35 months. 5 cases of six patients with neurologic deficits recovered completely. The remaining one improved, no fai

The authors describe a rare case of fracture of the neck of the talus associated with talonavicular dislocation but no disruption of the ankle and subtalar joints. The fracture united after open reduction and internal fixation. The head of the talus revealed avascular necrosis but the body did not. A literature review retrieved one previous report of a similar injury, but it was open and became infected. The unique features of this injury pattern and its specific complication, isolated avascular necrosis of the talar head, are discussed.

A 27 year-old man was involved in a high-energy-impact motor-vehicle accident and sustained multiple injuries including a medial subtalar fracture dislocation. The dislocation of the subtalar joint was reduced by closed means, but a large, comminuted, displaced posterior process fracture remained. Open reduction and internal fixation through a posteromedial approach with mobilization of the neurovascular bundle was used to restore congruity to the subtalar joint.

A 28-year-old turner presented with bilateral posterior fracture-dislocation of the shoulders following an epileptic seizure. He was treated by open reduction of the humeral heads and fixation of the oblique fractures with screws. At the follow-up examination 2 years postoperatively shoulder mobility was satisfactory, and the patient could return to his previous work.

Peroneal tendon dislocation accompanying an intra-articular calcaneal fracture is uncommon; however, such dislocations are often missed in the acute phase. Although risk factors have been reported, the correlation between the degree of lateral wall displacement of the fractured calcaneus and the incidence of peroneal tendon dislocation remains unclear. We retrospectively analyzed computed tomography scans of 61 patients who had calcaneal fractures to examine peroneal tendon dislocation and the association with degree of lateral wall displacement and presence of fleck signs, between peroneal te

Combination of lumbosacral junction injury with closed vertical shear sacral fracture and disruption of the symphysis pubis is a very rare pattern of injury, particularly with a late presentation. To our knowledge, the complexity of such a lumbosacral injury with pelvic fractures, which was presented with a chronic condition, has never been addressed or identified in the previous literature. We aimed to demonstrate a case with a late presentation of a complex lumbosacral fracture-dislocation, pelvic ring disruption and a vertical shear sacral fracture with neurological deficits and to emphasiz

Blood vessels passing through pelvic region come into intimate contact with pelvic bone and can be injured by the sharp edges of the dislocated fracture fragments. The aim of the study was to evaluate the influence of localization, shape, and dislocation of individual pelvic ring bones' fractures on arterial injuries. The study group consisted of 474 patients enrolled in a 1-year prospective multicenter study. The pattern of pelvic fracture lines was characterized and recorded on a planar diagram of the subjected side of the pelvis. The diagram was subdivided into 11 designated areas. Frequenc

BACKGROUND: Dislocation of a hip hemiarthroplasty is a common complication; however, the literature is mixed regarding dislocation rates and risk factors. There is a need for a comprehensive review of all potential risk factors to potentially tailor surgical techniques that reduce the risk of dislocation.
OBJECTIVE: The objective is to provide an overview of studies reporting on dislocation in patients with femoral neck fractures, with an emphasis on rates, risk factors, and patient-reported outcomes following dislocation.
METHODS: This scoping review was conducted in accordance with the met

PURPOSE: Complete acromioclavicular (AC) dislocation associated with fracture of the coracoid process (CP) is uncommon. The strong coracoclavicular ligaments, instead of rupture, may avulse the CP near its base, and with disruption of the AC joint may allow complete dislocation of the clavicle. We report ten cases, one of the largest series in literature, and reviewed the findings and treatment previous reported cases, to allow potential readers to establish the most appropriate treatment.
METHODS: We have prospectively collected those cases in which we had identified an association of an AC

BACKGROUND: Proximal ulna fracture dislocations comprise a wide spectrum of injury. The Coronoid, proximal Ulna, Radius and Ligaments (CURL) classification is a simple framework designed to aid surgical decision-making by focusing attention on the key components of the injury and their relative severity. It has been demonstrated to have a high interobserver and intraobserver reliability. The aim of this study was to analyze the prognostic value of the CURL classification with respect to patient outcome.
METHODS: The CURL framework was applied retrospectively to 182 patients treated surgically…

CASE: A 34-year-old man presented with bilateral locked posterior shoulder dislocations associated with proximal humerus fractures secondary to a tonic-clonic seizure. The patient underwent open reduction and internal fixation of both shoulders. At 1 year postoperatively, the patient exhibited near-complete recovery of shoulder function with no pain, excellent radiographic outcomes, and no evidence of early avascular necrosis (AVN) or hardware complications.
CONCLUSION: While this injury's sequelae can be devastating, an interdisciplinary approach may help optimize outcomes, and a prompt redu
