Combining Token Classification With Large Language Model Revision for Age-Friendly 4M Entity Recognition From Nursing Home Text Messages: Development and Evaluation Study.

BACKGROUND: Secure text messages (TMs) exchanged among interdisciplinary care teams in nursing homes (NHs) contain clinical information that aligns with the Age-Friendly Health Systems 4Ms: What Matters, Medication, Mentation, and Mobility, yet, this information is not captured in any structured form, making it unavailable for systematic monitoring or quality reporting. Automatically extracting 4M information accurately and efficiently from these messages could enable several downstream applications within long term care settings. This task, however, is challenging because of the fragmented sy

[The terror from the outside--child survivors of the Spiegelgrund traumatic experiences in childhood and their effects].

Survivors of the Spiegelgrund (children's euthanasia programme in Vienna during National-Socialism) were interviewed. Psychoanalytical interviews were discussed in an interdisciplinary study group. The overcoming and dealing with the terrible past during childhood were discussed as well as the reactions to the interviews of the members of the study group. The theoretical frame was Anna Freud's work on child survivors of the Theresienstadt concentration camp: "An Experiment in Group Upbringing": Different factors for the survival and the working through afterwards are discussed as well as the d

Long-term outcome of children with fetal alcohol syndrome: psychopathology, behavior, and intelligence.

Within an interdisciplinary research project, the long-term outcome of children with fetal alcohol syndrome was studied. Methods for the assessment of psychopathology, behavior, and intelligence included psychiatric interviews, behavior checklists for parents and teachers, and intelligence tests. The children were assessed during preschool age, early school age (6 to 12 years), and late school age (> or =13 years). An excess of psychopathology, (including hyperkinetic disorders, emotional disorders, sleep disorders, and abnormal habits and stereotypes) with a strong persistence over time was f

Incremental contribution of bronchoalveolar lavage fluid data to multidisciplinary discussion of interstitial lung disease.

BACKGROUND: Multidisciplinary discussion (MDD) integrating clinical, radiological, and laboratory information is considered the reference standard for the diagnosis of interstitial lung disease (ILD). Bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) analysis is recommended in several diagnostic algorithms, but its incremental contribution during multidisciplinary evaluation remains incompletely characterized. In this study, we aimed to assess the impact of BALF findings on diagnostic consensus and confidence during MDD for suspected ILD. METHODS: In this cross-sectional study, patients with suspected ILD

Interventions of a clinical pharmacist in a medical intensive care unit - A retrospective analysis.

Several studies demonstrated a significant decrease in prescription errors, adverse drug events, treatment costs and improved patient outcomes, when a clinical pharmacist (CP) was a full member of a multidisciplinary team in the intensive care unit (ICU). Our aim was to evaluate the activities of a CP, included in a 12-bed medical ICU team of a university hospital in the course of several months. We conducted a retrospective analysis of all the CP's interventions from March 2017 to November 2017, carried out and documented after reviewing and discussing patients' medical data with the treating

Trends in the incidence of lower limb amputation after implementation of a Multidisciplinary Diabetic Foot Unit.

BACKGROUNDS AND OBJECTIVE: Incidence of lower extremity amputations (LEA) in the population with and without diabetes mellitus (DM) was assessed after implementation of a Multidisciplinary Diabetic Foot Unit (MDFU) during 2008. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Non-traumatic LEA were analyzed, and those performed before (2001-2007) and after (2008-2014) introduction of the MDFU were compared. LEA were grouped by age and sex. Their incidence was expressed as a rate per 100,000 population per year, adjusted to the standard European population. RESULTS: A total of 664 LEA were performed during the 2001-201

Relationship between craniocervical orientation and center of force of occlusion in adults.

OBJECTIVE: Clinical observation and anecdotal reports suggest changes can occur to dental occlusion following intervention with the National Upper Cervical Chiropractic Association (NUCCA) procedure. This case controlled study discerned if occlusion changes are measurable using a dental force plate (T-Scan®) following an adjustment to the craniocervical junction (CCJ). METHODS: A degree of case control was established by active patients being assessed twice prior to and following intervention. Before-after intervention assessment included posture evaluation and dental occlusion (T-Scan®). RE

[Postpancreatectomy haemorrhage (PPH), prevalence, diagnosis and management].

INTRODUCTION: Postpancreatectomy haemorrhage (PPH) is considered to be the most severe specific postoperative complication following pancreatic resections and its treatment is difficult and requires coordinated interdisciplinary collaboration. PPH causes 11-38% of all post-pancreatectomy deaths. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of PPH in a set of patients operated on within the last 10 years, and to analyze the diagnostic methods, treatment modalities and the outcomes. METHODS: A retrospective analysis of patients undergoing pancreatic resections between 2006 and 2015. Cl

Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy and Myofunctional Devices Used in Speech Pathology Treatment: A Systematic Quantitative Review of the Literature.

Purpose A growing number of speech-language pathologists (SLPs) are using orofacial myofunctional therapy (OMT) and/or myofunctional devices (MDs) in the treatment of their clients. However, governing bodies suggest SLPs carefully consider the availability and quality of evidence in the utilization of these therapies in speech-language pathology treatment. The purpose of this study was to review the existing evidence for OMT and MDs used by SLPs. Method A systematic quantitative review was conducted using key search terms in three electronic platforms housing multiple databases, along with a h

Depth or Breadth? Domain-Specific Expertise and Cross-Domain Engagement in the Development of Scholarly Excellence.

Scholarly excellence is often equated with deep specialization within a single domain, a premise embedded in doctoral training, peer review, and academic-evaluation systems. However, research from the emerging "science of science," drawing on large-scale analyses of publications, citations, and career trajectories, suggests a more complex relationship between expertise, cross-domain engagement, and scholarly impact. This conceptual article synthesizes insights from the science of science, cognitive research on expertise, and organizational studies to examine the roles of domain-specific depth

Beyond the Known and Established Neurodegenerative Effects: Roles of APOE Across a Wide Spectrum of Pathophysiological Condition.

Apolipoprotein E (ApoE) is classically recognized for its role in lipid trafficking and the coordination of lipoprotein metabolism, yet its influence extends well beyond these pathways. While the contribution of ApoE isoforms to neurodegenerative disorders, most notably Alzheimer's disease, has been described in considerable detail, their impact on peripheral physiology is far less clearly defined. Evidence accumulated over the past decade suggests that variation in ApoE may shape traits such as adiposity, fat and lean mass distribution, bone density, muscle function, and cardiovascular risk,

Lonely minds in lonely bodies: Loneliness as insufficient psychological and neurophysiological self-other overlap.

Loneliness affects the health and wellbeing of a substantial proportion of the global population, posing a major public health concern. Loneliness, despite being an emotional state experienced within oneself, represents a sense of isolation from other individuals beyond the self. Most contemporary psychological research on emotion, especially in adults, takes an individualistic approach and is limited in accounting for "other" minds when studying the mind of a "self." On the other hand, studies of the neurophysiology of loneliness have mostly focused on presenting the biological correlates of

Which Theoretical Models or Frameworks Are Used to Understand Trauma-Informed Care in Mental Health Settings? A Scoping Review.

This scoping review examines and synthesizes the theoretical foundations underpinning trauma-informed care (TIC) in mental health settings. A systematic search of CINAHL, Scopus, Web of Science, and PubMed yielded 1278 records, of which 23 peer-reviewed studies published between 2010 and 2025 met the inclusion criteria. Reporting followed the PRISMA-ScR (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for Scoping Reviews) checklist and explanation. Seven overarching theoretical domains were identified: neurobiological and psychophysiological foundations, psychologi

The influence of oral health on sports performance: an interdisciplinary perspective.

Sports performance is a multifactorial concept determined by the interplay of physical, technical, tactical, and psychological factors. While its measurement is straightforward in metrical sports (e.g., athletics or swimming), it is more complex in team or aesthetic disciplines. In recent years, the role of oral health has gained attention as a potentially modifiable factor influencing athletic performance. This paper provides a comprehensive overview of how sports performance is defined and measured - particularly in explosive and endurance sports - and explores the impact of oral health on p
