Social stressors proliferate to impair the health of those connected to the person enduring the stressor, but they can simultaneously offer relief from other stressors. Using in-depth interviews with 69 mothers of incarcerated men, we investigate mothers' descriptions of how the stressor of their adult son's incarceration impairs their health. First, mothers overwhelmingly describe how the increased instrumental, emotional, and financial responsibilities following their son's confinement damage their health. OBJECTIVE: This article details a novel intervention for teaching psychiatric interviewing techniques implemented at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston.
METHODS: Forty medical students played the newly developed educational game Psychobabble to enhance their assessment of auditory hallucinations. Pre-session and post-session surveys assessed students' inquiry methods, competence, training relevance, and exercise efficacy. Paired t-tests compared pre-session and post-session data. Despite consensus that clinicians should receive cultural competence training to reduce mental health disparities among racial-ethnic minority groups, few studies have evaluated training in community settings. This column delineates implementation of the DSM-5 Cultural Formulation Interview (CFI) at a community hospital. Participating clinicians were able to implement the CFI after a single training session and offer administrative support and instructions on customizing care with lower- and middle-income, racially and ethnically diverse patients.

The goal of this study was to examine associations between dimensions of emotion dysregulation and eating disorder (ED) symptoms in bulimia nervosa (BN). This investigation used baseline data from a BN treatment study that included 80 adults (90% women) with full or subthreshold BN. Predictors of adolescent gambling behavior were examined in a sample of 436 males and females (ages 13-16). A biopsychosocial model was used to identify key variables that differentiate between non-gambling and gambling adolescents. The factor structure of the Autism Diagnostic Interview-Revised (ADI-R) algorithm items was examined using exploratory (EFA) and confirmatory factor analyses (CFA) factor methods. A pilot-study using the Worker Role Interview (WRI) was conducted to gather information from clients attending a work- rehabilitation program in an Icelandic psychiatric center.
