Comparison of sEMG activity of submental muscles between the head-lift exercise, tongue-press exercise and the head extension tongue-press exercise in healthy young adults.

BACKGROUND: Swallowing is a complex function that requires precise coordination between different muscles. Weakness in submental muscles can lead to complications such as pharyngeal residue and aspiration. Therefore, exercise interventions targeting these muscles, such as the Head-Lift Exercise (HLE), are clinically important but pose challenges. OBJECTIVE(S): This study aimed to compare the myoelectric activity of submental muscles during traditional Head-Lift Exercise (HLE), Tongue-Press Exercise (TPE) and Head Extension Tongue-Press Exercise (HETPE), providing potential alternatives to HLE

Leg Length Discrepancy and Nonspecific Low Back Pain: 3-D Stereophotogrammetric Quantitative Posture Evaluation Confirms Positive Effects of Customized Heel-Lift Orthotics.

Background: The literature reports evidence of leg length discrepancy (LLD) associated with musculoskeletal disorders, alterations in spinopelvic alignment, and body posture, leading to low back pain and lumbar scoliosis. The most common conservative treatment for LLD is the use of internal or external shoe lifts although no treatment guidelines have been established. Aim: The study aimed to contribute to low back pain-LLD relationship comprehension, highlighting the benefits of LLD correction in the nonspecific low back pain (NSLBP) population. Methods: A cross-sectional observational study r

Lymph-interpositional-flap transfer (LIFT) based on lymph-axiality concept: Simultaneous soft tissue and lymphatic reconstruction without lymph node transfer or lymphatic anastomosis.

BACKGROUND: Lymphatic system is important to maintain homeostasis. Lymph-axiality concept has been reported, which suggests possibility of lymphatic reconstruction using flap transfer without lymph node or supermicrosurgical lymphatic anastomosis. METHODS: Medical charts of 122 free flap reconstruction cases, either with conventional flap transfer (control) or lymph-interpositional-flap transfer (LIFT), for extremity soft tissue defects including lymphatic pathways were reviewed. Lymph vessels' stumps in a flap were placed as close to those in a recipient site as possible under indocyanine gr

Modified hemi-double-stapling technique combined with the temporal abdominal-wall-lift method for performing Billroth I anastomosis after laparoscopically assisted distal gastrectomy.

The authors have used a modified hemi-double-stapling (HDS) technique for reconstruction after laparoscopically assisted distal gastrectomy. The stomach is resected from the greater curvature side using a linear stapler inserted into the stomach from that side at a position vertical to the line of the greater curvature. Resection of the stomach is performed by extending the resection line to the lesser curvature using laparoscopic coagulating shears. The resected specimen is examined. After placement of a purse-string suture at the duodenal stump, an anvil is inserted into the stump, and an ad

Immediate effects of spinal manipulation, exercise therapy, and open-label placebo on lifting performance and pain in individuals with chronic non-specific back pain: a motion laboratory-based crossover randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Chronic non-specific back pain (CBP) is a leading cause of disability worldwide and is commonly associated with limitations in movements such as lifting. Although spinal manipulation (SMT) and exercise therapy (ET) are recommended treatments for CBP, their effects on objectively measured movement performance remain insufficiently explored. Open-label placebo (OLP) has gained attention for engaging placebo-related mechanisms ethically. This study aimed to investigate the immediate effects of SMT, ET, and OLP on lifting performance and pain in individuals with CBP, and to evaluate th…

Increases in trunk velocity during lifting are associated with improvements in disability and self-efficacy in people with chronic low back pain during cognitive functional therapy: a longitudinal analysis of the RESTORE trial.

OBJECTIVES: Lifting is a common self-reported aggravating factor associated with individuals experiencing low back pain (LBP). However, there is a paucity of longitudinal studies with multiple measures on lifting spinal kinematics, pain, disability and pain-related cognitions. This study investigated the relationship between changes in these factors in people with lifting-related chronic LBP undergoing cognitive functional therapy (CFT). METHODS: 141 people with chronic LBP aggravated by lifting received a course of CFT over 13 weeks (average 4.8 sessions) and performed the same lifting task …

How do I do it: Abdominal wall closure device-assisted minimally invasive cutaneous ureterostomy using a "loop-lift" maneuver for urgent diversion in young infants.

We describe an abdominal wall closure device (AWCD)-assisted minimally invasive cutaneous ureterostomy (CU) for young infants who require urgent, low-pressure diversion due to markedly dilated ureters (e.g., duplex-system ureterocele with high-grade reflux or other severe reflux/obstructive scenarios). Under laparoscopic vision, the AWCD is used to deliver and retrieve a suture loop beneath the markedly dilated ureter, enabling controlled elevation of the ureter along an extraperitoneal trajectory to a small skin incision with minimal ureteral mobilization. This "loop-lift" maneuver simplifies

Scar-Minimizing Full-Face Rejuvenation: A Novel Multiplanar and Multivector Approach Using Combined Forehead, Transoral Midface, and Limited-Incision Lower Face and Neck Lift Techniques.

INTRODUCTION: Facial rejuvenation techniques must meet modern demand for natural results with minimal visible scarring. Traditional facelifts often fail to correct midfacial descent and multivector ptosis, especially in younger patients without significant skin laxity. We describe a multiplanar, triaxial facelift approach combining subperiosteal, subfascial, and sub-SMAS (superficial musculoaponeurotic system)/subplatysmal dissection through hidden incisions. This study aimed to evaluate the clinical effectiveness and safety of a scar-concealing, multiplanar facelift approach that integrates f

Twenty-four months failure rate and functional outcomes comparison after implantable nitinol device (iTIND) and prostatic urethral lift (Urolift): real world multicenter study.

BACKGROUND: In recent years, there has been a growing trend toward minimally-invasive techniques (MISTs) in men presenting symptomatic lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS). However, direct comparisons between techniques are rare. This work compares 2-year functional outcomes and failure rates after implantable nitinol device (iTIND) and prostatic Urethral lift (Urolift). METHODS: Data of patients presenting with LUTS with an International Prostatic Symptom Score (IPSS) ⩾10, Qmax < 12 mL/s, and prostate volume < 70 mL were obtained retrospectively from two different referral centers' databases.

Latissimus Dorsi Flap and Thoracodorsal Artery Perforator Flap with Immediate Fat Transfer (LIFT and TIFT): A Retrospective Study about Total Breast Reconstruction in High-Risk Patients.

INTRODUCTION: Microsurgical breast reconstruction has become popular over the past twenty years and allows a tailor-tuck approach to each patient. However, smoking or coagulation disorders may switch surgeon's choice towards alternative options. When facing these risk factors, we performed pedicled latissimus dorsi (LD) flap and thoracodorsal artery perforator (TDAP) flap reconstruction with immediate fat transfer (LIFT and TIFT), achieving satisfactory surgical outcomes. Hence, we aim to present our seven-years case-series and discuss our decisional algorithm. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Thirty s

Does a Rising Median Income Lift All Birth Weights? County Median Income Changes and Low Birth Weight Rates Among Births to Black and White Mothers.

UNLABELLED: Policy Points Policies that increase county income levels, particularly for middle-income households, may reduce low birth weight rates and shrink disparities between Black and White infants. Given the role of aggregate maternal characteristics in predicting low birth weight rates, policies that increase human capital investments (e.g., funding for higher education, job training) could lead to higher income levels while improving population birth outcomes. The association between county income levels and racial disparities in low birth weight is independent of disparities in matern
