AIMS: To study the prevalence, risk factors, role of serum biomarkers for diagnosis and impact of invasive fungal infections (IFIs) in patients with acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF).

Herein we describe a 43 year-old Caucasian female patient with acute myeloid leukemia that developed an unconventional form of invasive Aspergillosis. For therapeutic reasons, a Groshong-type central venous catheter was positioned. Lymphoseek is a receptor-binding radiopharmaceutical specifically designed for sentinel lymph node (SLN) mapping. We conducted a clinical trial which measured the injection site clearance and sentinel lymph node accumulation after a single intradermal injection of Lymphoseek or unfiltered [(99m)Tc]sulfur colloid (TcSC) using a "2-day" protocol for SLN mapping of breast cancer. We carried out a prospective study on galactomannan enzyme immuno assay (GEI) (Platelia Aspergillus EIA, Bio-Rad) testing for diagnosis of invasive aspergillosis (IA) in serum and broncho-alveolar lavage (BAL) in 200 patients with hematological malignancies and profound neutropenia. The extent to which tea, cocoa and carob (foods rich in polyphenols) influence fecal nitrogen (N) excretion was investigated in rats.
