Clinical mentorship of nurse initiated antiretroviral therapy in Khayelitsha, South Africa: a quality of care assessment.

INTRODUCTION: To combat the AIDS epidemic and increase HIV treatment access, the South African government implemented a nurse-based, doctor-supported model of care that decentralizes administration of antiretroviral treatment (ART) for HIV positive patients through nurse initiated and managed ART. Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) implemented a mentorship programme to ensure successful task-shifting, subsequently assessing the quality of clinical care provided by nurses. METHODS: A before-after cross-sectional study was conducted on nurses completing the mentorship programme in Khayelitsha, Sout

Exploratory study of mental health consultation-liaison nursing in Australia: Part 2. Preparation, support and role satisfaction.

Mental health Consultation-Liaison (CL) nursing continues to develop and gain recognition as a subspecialty of mental health nursing. CL roles are particularly important given the significant number of people experiencing mental illness and other mental health problems within the general health-care settings. However, despite the potential value of these roles, the literature provides little information about these roles and about the nurses who work in these roles. This is the second part of a two-part paper describing a survey of CL nurses in Australia. Part 1 describes demographic data and

Development and psychometric evaluation of the Self-Regulated Nursing Care Scale (SRNCS) among Turkish nurses.

BACKGROUND: Self-regulation refers to individuals' ability to control themselves, manage their behaviours and learn from their environment. Self-regulated learning skills may support nurses in providing effective care. This study aimed to develop and psychometrically evaluate the Self-Regulated Nursing Care Scale (SRNCS) for assessing nurses' self-regulated nursing care skills based on Zimmerman's Self-Regulated Learning Model (Z'SLM) and the relevant literature. METHODS: The planning, implementation and evaluation components of nursing care were considered in relation to the forethought, per

How nurses address psychosocial needs in patients with advanced heart or lung failure: a qualitative interview study.

BACKGROUND: Patients with advanced heart failure or lung failure often experience significant changes in psychosocial needs, which may affect their quality of life, emotional wellbeing, and daily functioning. Although nurses are well-positioned to address these needs, there is limited understanding of their perspective on these conversations. Therefore, this study aimed to explore how nurses approach and experience addressing changes in psychosocial needs of patients with advanced heart failure (NYHA stage III or IV) or lung failure (GOLD 3 or 4). METHODS: A qualitative study consisting of se

Nursing Skill Mix, Nurse Staffing Level, and Physical Restraint Use in US Hospitals: a Longitudinal Study.

BACKGROUND: Although it is plausible that nurse staffing is associated with use of physical restraints in hospitals, this has not been well established. This may be due to limitations in previous cross-sectional analyses lacking adequate control for unmeasured differences in patient-level variables among nursing units. OBJECTIVE: To conduct a longitudinal study, with units serving as their own control, examining whether nurse staffing relative to a unit's long-term average is associated with restraint use. DESIGN: We analyzed 17 quarters of longitudinal data using mixed logistic regression,

Evaluating Depth-Based Human Pose Estimation in Real-World Nursing Home Environments.

Human pose estimation in real-world indoor environments remains challenging due to privacy concerns, occlusions, varying numbers of people, and noisy sensor data. In this work, we investigate pose estimation from depth images captured over an extended period in a nursing home setting. We explore multiple input representations, including depth-only and silhouette-based representations, as well as depth-based Sobel gradient features. To systematically analyze the impact of model complexity and input representation, we design an experimental framework comparing lightweight Convolutional Neural Ne

The complementary effects of virtual reality and traditional simulation in nursing education: A qualitative study.

BACKGROUND: Simulation-based education plays a pivotal role in bridging the gap between nursing theory and clinical practice. Although traditional scenario-based simulation is effective in enhancing clinical skills, it is often limited by its lack of situational fidelity. Conversely, virtual reality (VR) simulation provides highly immersive learning environments but is challenged by its inability to support genuine interpersonal interactions. There is a paucity of empirical evidence regarding the integration of the complementary strengths of these two modalities and the understanding of nursin

Medication Adherence Views of Mental Health Nurses to Inspire Transformative Care.

AimAdherence to the treatment plan for medications is crucial in treating mental illness but remains low due to complex factors such as illness characteristics, side effects of psychotropic drugs, and systemic health-care challenges. Understanding these barriers is vital for effective management. Most research has been quantitative, focusing on clients and caregivers, leaving gaps in understanding nurses' perspectives. This qualitative study explores views of nurses in Saudi Arabia about medication adherence in clients with mental illness.MethodsNine mental health nurses participated in one of

Building a sustainable management pipeline: Key predictors of nurse management aspirations in Ireland.

BACKGROUND: Against the backdrop of the shortages of nursing managers, this paper examines predictors of career aspirations among nurses in Ireland. Rather than viewing career aspirations as being determined solely by personal, job related or organizational factors we consider the individual nurse, within the context of their job, interacting with the overall organization and seek to ascertain how these factors are related to nurse's career aspirations. OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study is to explore how personal, job-related, and organizational factors shape nurses' career aspirations.
