The unregulated emissions from two in-use heavy-duty transit buses fueled by compressed natural gas (CNG) and equipped with oxidation catalyst (OxiCat) control were evaluated. We tested emissions from a transit bus powered by a 2001 Cummins Westport C Gas Plus 8.3-L engine (CWest), which meets the California Air Resources Board's (CARB) 2002 optional NOx standard (2.0 g/bhp-hr). A strategy of aerobic oxidative C(sp3)-C(sp3) bond cleavage of N-ethylaniline derivatives bearing azaarenes for the synthesis of N-aryl formamides has been developed. This approach was carried out smoothly with the CuI/TEMPO/air system to give N-aryl formamides in yields of 50-90%. With this methodology, a mutagenically active compound was constructed in 90% yield. Moreover, the reaction also provided a one-pot synthetic tool for accessing a promoter of hematopoietic stem cells by difunctionalization in 61% yield.

Patients with ulcerative colitis and Crohn's colitis, especially in the presence of primary sclerosing cholangitis, have an increased risk of developing colorectal cancer due to the longstanding colonic inflammation. Therefore, anti-inflammatory drugs reduce this elevated risk.On the other hand, immunosuppressive medication can have direct mutagen effects or can lead to compromised tumor surveillance, therefore increasing the risk of extra-intestinal tumors. This article reviews recommendations concerning cancer surveillance strategies in patients with inflammatory bowel diseases.

A child with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) whose predominant leukemic clone demonstrated double minute chromosomes (dmin) is presented. The patient had no history of mutagen or carcinogen exposure and responded well to combination chemotherapy. Although dmin have been described in acute myelogenous leukemia and various solid tumors in adults, their presence in childhood neoplasms is less frequent and limited primarily to neurogenic tumors.
