Does pausing ultrafiltration as a treatment for intradialytic hypotension cause backfiltration in hemodialysis?

Ultrafiltration is part of the hemodialysis procedure and can also be used exclusively to remove additional fluid in patients with fluid overload. Ultrafiltration that is too aggressive can result in hypotension, cramping, or other untoward effects. Temporarily pausing the ultrafiltration process is a technique used to help manage the adverse effects of rapid fluid removal. Some nurses prefer not to pause ultrafiltration because of the concern for backfiltration, and they elect to manage hypotension and cramping by normal saline infusions or other interventions. This article reviews the eviden

The Role of Role Strain and Physician Authority in the Relationship Between Collaboration Orientation and Nurses' Job Satisfaction.

AIM: This study examined the psychological mechanism and structural boundary conditions linking nurses' collaboration orientation with job satisfaction. BACKGROUND: Nurses may value collaboration even when clinical structures limit how those values are enacted. Yet, existing research has largely focused on observable nurse-physician collaboration rather than the role-related process through which collaborative values translate into job satisfaction. The job demands-resources model offers a useful lens, as nurses' work attitudes are shaped by the interplay among personal resources, role-relate

Exploration of Nurses' Preventive Practices for Aspiration Pneumonia Among Poststroke Patients at a Teaching Hospital in Ghana: A Qualitative Study.

INTRODUCTION: Patients who have experienced a stroke are at risk of developing aspiration pneumonia. The risk of aspiration pneumonia is often attributed to dysphagia, which is a condition observed in stroke patients due to the weakening of the muscles involved in swallowing. Nursing care related to oral hygiene, feeding, positioning, and mobilization can reduce the risk of aspiration pneumonia in poststroke patients. This study aims to explore nurses' experiences with prevention practices for aspiration pneumonia in poststroke patients. METHODS: This study employed a qualitative, exploratory

Extension to 'combined SNA and LDA methods to understand adverse medical events': Doctor and nurse perspectives.

BACKGROUND: Physicians and nurses are responsible for reporting medical adverse events. Each views these events through a different lens subject to their role-based perceptions and barriers. Physicians typically engage with diagnosis and treatment while nurses primarily care for patients' daily lives and mental well-being. This results in reporting and describing medical adverse events differently. OBJECTIVE: We aimed to compare adverse medical event reports generated by physicians and nurses to better understand the differences and similarities in perspective as well as the nature of adverse

A randomized controlled trial examining the impact of diversified nursing interventions on the circadian rhythm of sedated critically ill patients.

BACKGROUND: Circadian rhythms are cyclical processes within an organism that develop over time for the organism to better adapt to its environment. Disruption of the circadian rhythm by various factors can have both acute and chronic adverse effects on the health of the organism. Sedated patients in the intensive care unit often have severe circadian rhythm disturbances, in which care-related exogenous factors play an important role. METHODS: In this study, a randomized controlled trial design was adopted. Starting from the exogenous factors of nursing, the research objects that met the inclu

Is higher ego strength always better? Ego strength, ICT demands, and age in nurses' safety performance.

PURPOSE: This study examines how information and communication technology (ICT) demands influence nurses' safety performance in healthcare organizations. Drawing on the Job Demands-Resources (JD-R) framework, it investigates negative rumination as a cognitive mechanism linking ICT demands to safety compliance and safety participation, and explores how ego strength and age jointly shape this process through a three-way interaction. DESIGN/METHODOLOGY/APPROACH: A two-wave survey was conducted with 498 nurses from ten hospitals in China, separated by a three-week interval. Using structural equat

Anxiety and inhibitory control play a chain mediating role between compassion fatigue and Internet addiction disorder among nursing staff.

Mental health problems among nurses are prevalent and harmful. Nurses worldwide have encountered serious mental health issues. Although fatigue has been proven to lead to substance abuse or addictive behaviors (such as internet addiction), there is a lack of sufficient data on whether there is a connection with compassion fatigue. Compassion fatigue is a common mental health problem in helping professions. Anxiety and inhibitory control have been demonstrated to be associated with internet addiction, but the mediating role between them in the state of compassion fatigue remains to be further e
