Rett syndrome and MECP2 Duplication syndrome are neurodevelopmental disorders attributed to loss-of-function mutations in, or duplication of, the gene encoding methyl-CpG-binding protein 2 (MeCP2), respectively. We recently reported decreased expression and function of the metabotropic glutamate receptor 7 (mGlu7) in a mouse model of Rett syndrome. BACKGROUND: Poisoning is a significant public health problem globally. Ethiopia is a low-income country undergoing technological and social change that may increase access to drugs and chemicals, potentially increasing the incidence of poisoning. This study describes the epidemiology of hospital admissions due to poisoning in a region of Ethiopia.

Indium phosphide/zinc sulfate (InP/ZnS) quantum dots (QDs) are presumed to be less hazardous than those that contain cadmium. However, the toxicological profile has not been established. The present study investigated the acute toxicity of InP/ZnS QDs with different surface modifications (COOH, NH2, and OH) in mice after pulmonary aerosol inhalation. We report the application of a chemodosimeter 'turn on' fluorescent probe for detecting endogenous H2S formation in cancer cells. Mito-HS showed a bathochromic shift in the UV-vis-absorption spectrum from 355 nm to 395 nm in the presence of H2S. Furthermore, it showed an ∼43-fold fluorescence enhancement at λem = 450 nm in the presence of H2S (200 μM). Role of high dose magnesium sulphate therapy was evaluated in 50 patients of Aluminium Phosphide (AIP) poisoning. Simultaneously serum and RBC magnesium levels were studied in these patients at six different points within first 24 hours. In non-survivors magnesium content of various tissues (brain, stomach, kidneys, liver, lungs and heart) was also estimated. The intravenous administration to pentobarbitone-anaesthetized cats of the GABA-B antagonists CGP 46381 and CGP 35348 blocks the longer duration component of the inhibition of lumbar extensor monosynaptic reflexes by tetanic stimulation of low threshold flexor primary afferent fibres. GABA-B receptors thus appear to be associated with this inhibitory process, in addition to bicuculline-sensitive GABA-A receptors associated with shorter duration 'presynaptic' inhibition of reflexes and the depolarization of the terminals of primary afferent fibres.
