Interstitial retinol-binding protein (IRBP), cellular retinol-binding protein (CRBP), and cellular retinal-binding protein (CRALBP) were localized in developing normal and RCS rat retinas. IRBP is found in the presumptive interphotoreceptor space in normal and RCS rats on P1. It reaches adult levels on P18. In the RCS rat, the level of IRBP decreases after P18 until there is only a small amount of staining on P38. CRBP and CRALBP are localized in the retinal pigment epithelium from P1 to adult. The penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) of a methicillin-resistant (MR) and a methicillin-susceptible (MS) Staphylococcus aureus were compared by various approaches involving the use of high-specific-activity [3H]penicillin as a reagent. The MR and MS strains were found to contain PBPs of the same number and electrophoretic mobilities. Receptor binding proteins of Treponema pallidum were identified by incubation of [35S]methionine-labeled, soluble T. pallidum preparations with formaldehyde-fixed HEp-2 cells. In the present study we measured the content and determined the localization of a calcium-binding protein (CaBP) in the intestinal biopsy specimen of ten patients with severe renal insufficiency and in eight healthy individuals.
