Radiation recall is a rare side effect observed in patients treated with certain medications after radiation therapy. This effect mimics a radiation-induced tissue reaction in expression; however, it occurs outside of the traditional time course and only in the presence of a catalyzing agent. The authors report a case of radiation recall resulting from an interaction between radiation delivered during a fluoroscopically guided hepatic chemoembolization for treatment of metastatic carcinoid tumor and the oral chemotherapeutic agents capecitabine and temozolomide administered 7 weeks later.

Brain irradiation has several well-known long-term side effects, including radiation-induced neoplasms and vasculopathy. In this case report, we describe an extremely rare case of meningioma and 15 cavernomas developing in a 29-year-old man, 19 years after cranial irradiation for posterior cranial fossa medulloblastoma. To our knowledge, this is the first case of a radiation-induced meningioma accompanied by this many radiation-induced cavernous angiomas.

A novel compact real time radiation detector with cost-effective, ultralow power and high sensitivity based on Geiger counter is presented. The power consumption of this detector which employs CMOS electro circuit and ultralow-power microcontroller is down to only 12.8 mW. It can identify the presences of 0.22 μCi (60)Co at a distance of 1.29 m. Furthermore, the detector supports both USB bus and serial interface. It can be used for personal radiation monitoring and also fits the distributed sensor network for radiation detection.

Radiotherapy is a major treatment of pelvic tumours. It exposes to the risk of acute and long-term side effects, such as radiation proctitis. Radiation proctitis is a complex disease requiring support ranging from initial contact with the patient until several years after completion of radiotherapy. This care includes preventive measures (clinical and dosimetric factors), detection and medical and surgical treatments. This article aims to make a review of radiation proctitis induced during the treatment of pelvic cancers.

Anal canal carcinoma are highly curable by irradiation, combined with chemotherapy in locally advanced disease, with preservation of sphincter function. The clinical target volume for the nodes is extended, often including the inguinal nodes, which is not usual for other pelvic tumours. OBJECTIVE: External beam radiation therapy is a highly effective treatment for many types of cancer and other diseases, but incorrect delivery of the high doses necessary for tumor control can cause serious normal tissue complications, and geographic misses of the tumor can cause tumor recurrence.
CONCLUSION: Benefits and risks of the explosive technologic growth of the last three decades will be described, as will efforts to reduce treatment errors and ensure safe effective treatment.
